Question for Starwood Lurker II :)
I was told by the lounge attendent at the Royal Orchid Sheraton that eventhough I was staying on the Club floor (had to push hard for this "upgrade") my only benefit was lounge access. So I am not entitled to benefits like free laundry, local calls etc which comes with the club room.
Is this correct/acceptable?
I usually get these benefits in many other SPG hotels .....

Quick question. Which hotels are are doing your laundry for you? Boy, that's service. I never knew that SPG hotels did this for guests who reserve club rooms.

Quick answer: The ROS (like several other BKK hotels) does. Simple reason: In a humid environment you might need five shirts a day. Since labor costs in Thailand are close to nothing they are happy to offer this if you pay a certain surcharge to your room rate which appears to be close to nothing for you (eg. 10 Euro) but pays for a lot of labor in Thailand.

Actually most hotels in SE Asia offer this service for club rooms or suites or plat benefit. Many restrict it to just pressing (on day of arrival) but some offer full laundry service (for each day of stay). They do limit the number of pieces though.

I stayed at the Taipei Westin in Apr. '07 and had the exact same experience. I was upgraded to a junior suite with club lounge priviledge, but was told by the lounge attendants that I was not entitled to other club benefits like free Wi-Fi and pressing of 2 articles of clothing. The brochure in the room specifically stated free Wi-Fi and pressing of 2 items.
When I was upgraded to a suite on the club floor at the Le Royal Meridien Shanghai in Jan., I was offered all the club level priviledges and I had 2 shirts pressed. In fact, I handed the shirts to the lounge attendant at 10 PM and got them back at 10:30 PM. Great service.:-:
Follow up question for Lurker II: Is this individual hotel specific? Does the hotel determine which benefits they will offer Plats and which they will not? If we know ahead, then we may select our hotel choice accordingly.

None of the other BKK SPG hotels do this in my experience. I have always received full club floor benefits, the SGS for instance offers I think 3 items of laundry free.

I would think that this is the norm when being upgraded.
You will be accorded to the Loung ebenefits but all the other privileges when staying in a Club room will come only if you had paid for the benefits.
Each international property would have its own set of benefits I would think.
BTW, the Shangri la properties do give free laundry up to 5 pieces per day but only if you paid for the package which includes free phone calls, breakfast etc.

The Shangri-La hotels have packages that include unlimited laundry. I stayed at the Rasa Sentosa Resort last year on the package and did a week's worth of laundry.
Greetings:
We stay at the RO at least one or two times a year, have for over 10 years, always get upgraded to ex suite which includes all the goodies EXCEPT laundry.
If you pay for the club floor you then get laundry, five items each day.(You do get your shoes shined though!:D!)

The SPG Hotel Coordinator for AP confirms that it is expected that if an elite member is upgraded to a floor/room that includes certain amenities, then we would expect for those amenities to be given on a complimentary basis. Ergo, both The Westin Taipei and the Royal Orchid Sheraton have been advised that they should change their current practice accordingly.
This still would not apply to such situations as we find at the Sheraton Singapore where they sell a tower concept room type for an additional charge, but do not have specific floors/rooms set aside for this purpose.
