Hertz - Ford Focus changes category depending on number of doors!

A recent rental in YWG, for which I had reserved a Corolla (shown as midsize on the website) actually ended up being a Focus instead (shown as compact on the website). Strange that both give rate code CR.
Why would the rental location initially state that both Corolla and Focus are the same size? Then, when I pointed out what the website states, they claimed that the 2-door Focus is a compact, while the 4-door is a midsize. How silly is that?
Why does the website show cars that the location doesn't even have?

As far as I know, the rate code CR stands for Corporate Rate - regardless of the car class reserved.

Class is what you want to look at, not rate code. Compact=B, Midsize=C. If you still have the car, does it say C on the keychain, or some variant with C in it? Or B?
There do seem to be some interesting reports of possible class creep of late, so what you described about 2 door vs 4 door may not be outside the realm of possibility.

Ah yes... the invoice says vehicle class = C. "Focus SE" (4-door)

Well, guess they gave you the class you rented then, but clear evidence of some creep if any Focus is in class C.
(Or did they just come out with a new bigger Focus or something?)

The Focus is only made in a 4 door model now...

The 2008 Focus comes in 2-door and 4-door versions. No more hatchbacks or wagons, unfortunately.
Both the 2000-2007 and 2008 Focus have larger interior room than the same model year Corolla.

Hertz' response:
Our records indicate the class B (compact) category includes the Ford Focus ZX5. This vehicle carries four passengers and the available cargo space is approximately 13.8 cubic feet. The class C (intermediate) category includes the Ford Focus SE Wagon you received. This vehicle carries four to five passengers and contains approximately 35.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
Of course, I never had a wagon, but rather a sedan, but never mind... I'll just remember not to reserve a Corolla, but just reserve a class B "Focus" instead next time! Might even save $2.50. :D
