Korean Air Skypass - ATL, JFK or IAD?

View Full Version : ATL, JFK or IAD?

Good evening.

For this summer, I'm planning a first class award trip to ICN. Connecting from IND, I'm trying to decide whether I should connect through ATL, JFK or IAD. As this consideration is based on the lounge service offered in each airport, Which airport's lounge (KE's in JFK, VS's in IAD and DL's in ATL) and facilities would you say is the best?

Then the obstacle of connection flight flexibility comes up, except for ATL. I could fly out of ORD to JFK or IAD, but then I have to spend another $110 for round trip shuttle between Purdue and ORD, plus the shuttle's time isn't the most flexible. I know I could take nonstop from ORD, but I wanted to get the most out of my award trip (ORD's KE lounge doesn't seem to be as nice as the other cities'). :P Do you guys have any idea on making efficient connection from/to either airports?

Last thing, which airport's immigration procedure is less painful?

Thanks so much for reading this long question. I'm just stuck on making the best out of award ticket. haha

I assume IAD, JFK, and ATL all have upgraded aircraft with the new seats by now, but I'd make sure before booking.

You don't necessarily have to return to the same airport you depart from, so if one offers you a more convenent departure the use it on the outbound and return to the one with the most efficient immigration.

dvs7301,

I really appreciate your reply. :) I am planning to do exactly the same thing you recommended me to do so, which is to use convenient and nice departure then return on more efficient immigration, and that's what I'm trying to figure out. I need help on the figuring out part.

BTW, all three cities do have new Kosmo seats, as confirmed by KE.

Actually that's not true. Only JFK has Kosmo style F seat (for both day and night flights), while IAD and ATL have old style 2-2 flat F seat. Only 6 744s out of 17 upgraded 744s have Kosmo style F seats. Those 6 are running on FRA, LAX, JFK, and another JFK.

Well, it can be changed at the last minute, though.

I checked with both KE's call center and their Korean website, and all three cities do have Kosmo seats. FYI, I'll be travelling in may and august.

I really appreciate the replies, but it seems like I made my question unclear.

Let me try this way :

For departure, which lounge is better? KE's in JFK or VS's in IAD.

Also, compared to Terminal 1 in JFK, how better/worse is IAD?

I made up my mind to fly into ATL on return, since it's easier to make connection IND + it's the longest US flight for KE, so I wanted to get as much out as possible.

Sorry for confusion.

Well, KE website does say that IAD and ATL doesn't have Kosmo first class, at least Korean language site does. Also KE cargo webpage says 74B, which has old lie flat F seats, is running on IAD and ATL, while 74A is for JFK. Those things won't change for a while, at least until this summer. (You're taking F, right?)

The best thing about returning from ICN through ATL is customs and baggage handling. Both work great because the International arrival facility in ATL is oversized for the time the KE flight arrives. Have a great trip!
