Central America - GUA to Antigua in the Wee Hours of the Morning

A friend of mine is getting married in Antigua, Guatemala, in April. My fiancée and I would love to go.

So, I've found an excellent fare on UA for $313.30 per person! And, I've got two ~$125 vouchers I want to use.  So, a killer fare. ^

Of course, there's a hitch! ;) The LAX-GUA flight we'd be taking arrives at 4:07am on a Friday morning. Can anyone suggest a way to get to our hotel in Antigua from GUA at that hour? I'm sure that getting our bags and clearing customs will take some time. We could rent a car and drive, but ... And, I'm not all that hopeful that we'll have an easy time finding a shuttle or taxi at that hour of the morning. Then again, I know very little about Guatemala.

I`m in Guatelmala City right now, having arrived from Antigua earlier today. It´s very easy to get from Antigua to Guatemala City by taxi or car service. We ended up using a service; the cost was $35, about $5 more than hailing a cab. We used the same driver to go from GUA to Copan and then from Copan to Antigua--great guy, bilingual, and a very good driver. It turns out that he runs a small travel service in Antigua: he has 4 vehicles. I will post the particulars when I have them handy (I`m using the computer at the GUA Westin right now).

It wasn't a problem for us when we were in Antigua from 2/21 - 2/23; however, we heard that the entire city ran dry for a couple of days the previous week. Of course, you wouldn't be drinking tap water anyway, but no showers for a few days might make for a memorable wedding.

I have no idea how often this happens there.

cmijangos@pacificagt.com (Carlos is the owner.)Thanks for the info! ^ It's a little difficult to be sure from the website, but it looks like they can get us from the airport to our hotel at that hour (I see the from Antigua to Guatemala City line in their schedule, but I don't see the reverse).

Now I just have to see about checking into our hotel at 6:00am. I sure hope we'll be able to shower!!!

Talk to your hotel in Antigua for options. They will either have a shuttle service or refer you to one of the various shuttle services that take people from the airport to Antigua and back. I would recommend buying the round trip.
You should make it through immigration and customs pretty quickly. The good thing about arriving at that hour is that you will avoid the heaviest traffic leaving the city. BTW, Antigua totally rocks.
