From the Orlando Sentinel (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/orl-airport2108feb21,0,4467915.story):

"It's about to get more expensive to rent a car at Orlando International Airport.

Board members of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the agency that runs OIA, voted Wednesday to adopt a $2.50-a-day tax on car rentals. The "customer facility charge," which would be capped at five days, could add as much as $12.50 to a customer's bill."

(Mods move this to Newsstand if you think it is a better fit there)

Of course! OIA is about fees that soak the tourist.I have gotten to the point that I avoid it in favor of Tampa. My last parking episode at OIA(in the garage, my fault as I arrived late) was unbelievably expensive. I have sympathy with those who rent, and I have had to rent on occasion with a car in the shop.Florida is getting to be a fee nightmare and it'll get worse with the current state budget shortfall.OIA's favoritism to Disney and special fees, if not gotten under control, eventually could cause more of a movement to an alternative airport like Sanford.I hate to see all this as a native Floridian, reading the Sentinel is getting pretty depressing. When the court system is having to shut for weeks to cover their shortfall you know they are really in trouble!

I am a local too and I find that the off-airport rental rates (even in the Disney area) have been very good to me in the past, especially with Dollar.

The rental rates aren't that bad, especially , it's the fees and taxes both the state, county, city and everyone (read GOAA, OIA's operator)else has tacked onto rental car use.
