Hertz - Loving the Corvette

So this week I was trying to Get an H2 at LAX, and it was no go.. (Looking for some wow factor for a weekend of partying it up in SAN) Need a nice car to have the girls follow back to the big big suite.. (The hummer would have been more fitting for that..) Anyway I was suggested a Corvette, and managed to with a little negotiating get it for $140 (incl tax) or so a weekend day and a bit more into the week. $580 or so total for four days.... I have never cared for corvettes as I never drove one.. My opinion has changed! Thank you Hertz! I wish I could afford to do this more often!

Just make sure they don't see the rental barcodes on the windows ;)

I definitely had plenty of fun with it on an award rental out of SFO :) Nothing like feeling it pick up when you floor it. Although my fiance was there ;)

In 2007, I rented several 07 and 08 models for a total of about 12 weeks at LAX, so I know the car quite well. It's fun and easy to drive (and it has Neverlost and Sirius, although the latter didn't always work), but manufacturing quality is typical "American". So I wouldn't wanna buy/own one.
It's a very decent rental, though - if you manage to get it at a decent rate. I certainly did.

What would you call a good rate? I am at about $150 a day (102 + $40 Upgrade) or so in the week with tax and unltd miles. Still got the car, and on day five have drove from LA to San to Grand Canyon, to LAS, to SAN, to Sac, and headed to Napa and SF and back to LA. I am glad I am not paying 39 cents a mile! The going rate seems to be $1100 a week or so..

2days back now from LAX - a 10 day / 3000mls trip on a 08 modell - lots of fun and worth the money.

I usually paid about $550 a week, including full insurance and everything.

No need for that, as those rates have gone up since late 2007. That's why I took the opportunity when it presented itself.
Hertz always offers some premium car(s) at a good rate, but one has to play with CDPs and home countries in order to find them. It's a weekend of trial and error, but it pays off in the end. And I always have decent cars (in 2007, I had a mix of 350Z, 350Z convertible, A4, A4 convertible, XC90, Corvette, Shelby Mustang, Ford Edge and a few others for a total of about 8-9 months at LAX).

fwiw, last night I happened to be pricing ragtops in South FL (PBI, FLL & MIA) and the Corvette was the same price at each location @$775ish /week or so, incl tax but not insurance
btw, are Crossfire convertibles available anywhere?
None were listed as a choice in So Florida or LAX or LAS.

Since Chrysler has already discontinued that car, I doubt that you can rent it anywhere.
I didn't like it too much, although it was inexpensive. At LAX, I used to get it for less than $250 a week incl. everything. IMHO, the 350Z is more fun.
From my GF's point of view, nothing says "mid-life crisis" like the Crossfire. And for both the Hummer and the 'vette, it has something to do with insecurity and compensation for... uh... something the driver lacks... uh... that's addressed by many spam messages...

Don't worry, once you overcome your insecurity and lack of self-esteem, you will stop worrying about what others might say about you and what you do, think, say etc., and start to have fun by doing the things you like. ;)
