Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Priceline - can someone else check in?

I've got a stay in Zurich coming up, and was wondering if anyone can help with check-in formalities. Priceline reservation is in my name, but I'm sharing the room with a friend who will arrive on a separate flight. If I'm delayed (possibly even overnight ) will she be allowed to check in to the Sofitel. Or is she stranded?

Would it help if I called the front desk (if I know I'm going to be delayed)?

Also, anyone with any experience of snagging a late checkout at Sofitel (or early check in at the Marriott. I took a calculated gamble to get a weekend rate and ended up with a hotel-switch. If neither of these is possible, then presumably one or other of the hotels will let us leave our luggage, right?

(For anyone that's interested: I paid £73+ for 28 Feb in the Sofitel and £47+ for 29 Feb in the Marriott. Bidding for two nights together had been rejected at £71, so I saved £13 per person by splitting the stay. Just about worth it I suppose. Even more worth it if I'd got the same hotel...)

In a good-quality establishment like the Sofitel, no problem. The best thing to do is call the hotel a few days before you arrive, explain the situation, and follow this up with a fax to their reservations department...

I've done exactly this at the Kensington Knightsbridge - I just added their name to the reservation, and they can check in, no worries.

Same here - exact situation, same solution and no problems.

This is the procedure, it works 95% of the time, but some hotels are a bit difficult about it -- when you don't get the answer you want, hang up and call back after it's likely there's been a shift change, and then followup with a fax IMHO.

Thanks for the reassuring responses.

I was expecting a firm and inflexible 'no' from the hotel, so this is a pleasant surprise.

mmm -- this surprises me. I've actually found priceline customer service to be pretty good the couple of times I've had to deal with them. Have you tried disputing the charge with your credit card company? I had one incident once where priceline charged me and the hotel charged me for the same stay, but the credit card company took it off right away.

I agree. If the charge is invalid take it up with the CC company. Should be easy.
