Hertz - Hertz st. Thomas (STT)

Hi,

I have booked a rental car through Hertz for a trip to ST John.

I was reviewing the rental stuff and noticed it says that i cannot take the vehicle over to st john from st thomas via the car ferry?

Is that true? Anyone know who enforces it? How it is enforced?

Seems pretty dumb to me since they both have the same laws etc etc.


Budget says you can take their vehicles but im a Hertz Gold member.....


Any thought's?

You may be able to take it, however, I wouldn't. If something should happen, you would have voided the rental agreement. Any insurances you would have taken, would also be voided. Further, you personal car insurance, if it covers you, may choose not to since, you guessed it, you vioded the contract by taking the car somewhere that you shouldn't have.

I worked for Hertz many years ago, and have seen this happen before....

I appreciate your advice and information, but i am looking for more real world experience between these two islands.

Budget and Avis are the only two majors that allow their cars to be taken over to St John, AFAIK.

If you're bent on renting from Hertz, take the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay and rent from Hertz over there. Then there's no issues for you.

I rented a vehicle from Hertz on St. Thomas and brought the vehicle over to St. John for the week I was there. I work for Hertz in the States and was told that as long as you ask you should be able to take it over to St. John. Where you are a gold member as well I dont see there being an Issue.

I am Gold, but was repeatedly told that i could not take the vehicle across.

Sadly, i rented from Budget instead and was given the biggest POS Durango ive ever driven. I treated it as nicely as all the previous renters clearly did.

I absolutely hate rentong from anyone other than Hertz, so it could have been avoided if not for the dumb policy in place.

Did you simply take a chance and ask the desk agent at the time of pick up?

I am sure that being a Hertz employee helped out.
