Hertz - Very high prices on Avalon compared to competition

I rented a Premium category car from National last weekend at ORD. In the Premium area of their lot, they had numerous Toyota Avalons, so I took one of those. Great car, and only 6000 miles on it. The rate was around $60/day. Hertz, meanwhile, wanted $110/day for its "Toyota Avalon or similar" category. Its Premium category was $80/day for a "Grand Marquis or similar."

Bottom line: Premium to Premium, National beat Hertz hands down. Not just that, but National's rate on the Avalon is way better than Hertz', which actually prices it higher per day than the Town Car. That's particularly funny given that MSRP on the Avalon is $30-32K versus $40K or so for the Town Car. Shame on Hertz for overpricing this fine car.

So, now you know that to save money you will have to rent from National.

Yes, most likely. Although, other (nicer) Hertz vehicles may also work. Looking for a car for next weekend, the Audi A6 is $79.99/day. The Avalon is $88.99/day. Not sure what exactly drives up the Avalon price so high, but as nice of a car as it is, I'm obviously going to take the Audi.

Hey Sfo

book a smaller car and get upgraded to the avalon you will get a better rate that way and you can always talk the price down :)
