American Express Membership Rewards - Combining an FHR booking with a non-FHR booking made directly through the hotel?

I have March 28-30 at Wynn booked through FHR, but a recent offer I got directly from Wynn has the 27th at a great rate--literally hundreds less than through FHR for the room type I want.
Would I run into problems booking these separately and combining the stay? Of course, I'm not expecting FHR benefits the first night and frankly, don't think the upgrade will be happening the rest of the stay since it's a busy weekend. Would I have to re-checkin or even change rooms?

Hey MikeE,
I have done this once before, combining and FHR rate with a Wynn Code for a couple of days that came with a nice resort credit. Both rates priced into the same "class" of room in the Tower. I simply spoke to the manager at the Tower check in and she rolled them together without a problem. I did not have to change rooms, though when I checked out in the end, I signed two receipts and received two invoices.

some people have reported success in the luxury hotels forum of getting FHR benefits on discount bookings at oberoi properties. (1 nt @ FHR rate then x nts @ discount rate)
I did this at the Oberoi Bali last October. I booked 2 nights thru FHR, then decided that we wanted another 2 nights (before traveling). FHR said they were sold out, as did the Oberoi website. We got the 2 nights through travelocity, a little bit cheaper than the FHR rate.
When we checked in, they had both reservations. We had reserved the basic, garden view room. We were offered one night in a villa then move to a garden view or 4 nights in an ocean view. We opted for the first choice on the recommendation of the clerk - and we didn't regret it!
