Hertz - Recently strayed from Hertz experience

I am a little different I think from most that use Hertz, as I use them for personal rentals, while my business travel agent will almost never rent from them. I always get budget and Thrifty from the Govt. Anyway, I use hertz for personal travel because if you research the rate it comes out about equal and I like the service. I like to be able to get off of the bus and walk over to my car after reading the board. That is worth a few bucks.

Anyway, I had a recent business trip and had to utilize Budget and Thrifty again for the business portions of the trip.

First, I am a Fast Track member because of my business trips, but that feature NEVER seems to work with Budget as advertised. When it does, invertibly they have not factored in any upgrade I may have a coupon for. In the end I received a no frills Chevy Malibu which seemed a little worse for wear after 2000 rental miles and may have had a smoker in its not too recent past. Oh well. It worked for my trip and I guess the govt saved a few bucks maybe.

My next rental was from Thrifty. If you are familiar with Thrifty, you sign your contract and then walk to a numbered row and "pick" your car. I was renting from LAX and was allowed to pick from the econo box row. I asked to be upgraded and got upgraded to a row of 2008 Dodge Caiber's. They were brand new with 3 miles on them so I took one. Wow, manual windows, manual mirrors, minimal seat adjustment, but it drove and it was new.

All in all, when I picked up my Taurus X from IAD after returning, I felt like I was home. The car was not new, but in far better condition than the Budget offering. I also like the floor mats in the car. I know it is little but I like it. I had no idea how much I had come to expect electronic windows etc, but having to pull over to adjust a mirror just seems so 80's.

I am not sure if you all have experience with Hertz IAD, but I really think they run a great show there. I try and tell the manager when I am waiting for the shuttle, but I have rarely been rebuffed and they really seem to look out for their customers. I was overcharged for gas when I was told to bring a car back at 3/4. When I returned my next car a week later and pointed this out to them, they made the adjustment immediately by crediting my current rental. No questions asked.
