I qualified for Gold Elite last year, but did not have a single stay with BW in 2007. Today I received a letter telling me that I would maintain status for 2008. I do have a 6 night reservation on the books for June.
The same letter mentions 2 promos; 1,000 bonus points for any stay between now and May 31 & double points or miles with 2 or more stays between 2/10 and 4/6 (odd choice of dates).
It also says they will introduce new elite benefits: priority check-in and special amenities. Can't wait to see what that amounts to.

I used to be Platinum Elite but missed renewal with two nights. On 1 Feb my status was reduced to reflect this but a few days later I got back to Platinum. Weird, maybe I will get a letter as well? Not that status matters that much with BW, but let see with the new benefits then.

I just received a letter congratulating me on having renewed my platinum status. It also said to ignore the 01/31 expiration date on my current card and to keep using it.
The letter also mentioned to be on the lookout for exciting new features and options to the program.
We will see what that means, maybe they will educate their personnel to at least recognize status.

I got all of this too and I didn't stay at BW all of last year either. I think mine said I needed to stay there one time to get the miles and to continue the Gold status. Ironically, I ended up in a BW this week.

I received the same letter as well, I maintained Diamond Status even though I had only about 15 stays.

I got the same letter except I'm only gold elite. Had only 2 stays in 2007, total of 3 nights.

Keep in mind that there's a difference at BW between actual "stays" and posted "stays", when you stay during promo periods.
I reached elite last year in about half the normal stays because I stayed during promos where I earned bonus miles, and those bonus miles posted separately and also posted as stays!!! :)
If you haven't been paying attention to how many posted "stays" the website counted from your promos, that could explain in some cases why you made/retained elite with fewer actual "stays" than you thought you needed.

I called CS yesterday and they said they are doing it for all their elites. Can anybody else confirm this?

Well, so far we haven't heard from a BW elite who lost status. I don't think there are that many of us here. By default, I think we can assume it is working as intended. True to form for BW, that means about 50% of the time.

Come to think of it, I only had 13 nights last year and they still gave me Platinum. I often find that BW gives me 2 night's credit for a single stay when they have to manually post or adjust points.
I could use the silver status.

I could use the silver status.
I'm not sure how. It goes from Gold to Gold Elite to Platinum Elite to Diamond Elite. Other than a 10% point bonus, Gold Elite gets you nothing.

Mine's somewhat the opposite. I barely squeaked by to get Diamond last year (with my last qualifying stay actually being on December 31). Because their system had missed some of the nights, I had to get them to put them into the system. Then, they credited those missing stays to 2008. I pointed out to them that they occurred in 2007, and that should bump me up to Diamond.
The representative I spoke with handed it off to a supervisor who did get my status adjusted.
What was interesting is that the Diamond Elite card I received has a "valid thru" date of 01/31/10, giving me an additional year.

Something for the rest of us to look forward to?

My letter said that I would retain platinum for another year too, but to use my old card for now. When lifetime was offered, I made it 1/2-way there. Since then, 2 nights at BW and still a diamond.
