With two 3* properties now gone (Sheraton South Portland and the Doubletree), is there anything new to take its place? I'd even take that new Courtyard by Marriott as a viable alternative to the SSP. Anyone have any experience with this?

I would guess there is probably something... Hotwire is showing both a 3* and 3 1/2 * and Hotwire and Priceline often have the same hotels.

Wow, when did the Sheraton South Portland close? I stayed there not that long ago. Ah, well - not that great a stay, but I did eat numerous times in the mall across the street.

You should still be able to get Eastland Park downtown or Marriott Sable Oaks in Portland South (this is OK, Eastland Park can be great to miserable, depending upon your room), both 3* on PL.

Good luck.

the Sheraton is now a Wyndham. I stayed there a few weeks ago. It wasn't packed. I don't know if they are working with Priceline now, though.

I still haven't gotten any bids accepted. I'll keep trying. I've stayed at the Eastland Park. The ~$12 daily parking added to the price and it was inconvenient to have to schlep to the parking garage. The hotel reminds me of the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York. It's just way past its prime.

The Doubletree did not close, it changed to a Clarion. I would assume that COULD also come up as a 3*, but who knows for sure with those.

Analise,

What bid are you putting in that is getting rejected?

Analise,

What bid are you putting in that is getting rejected?I'm sorry I did not get back to you sooner. The highest bid was $65. After getting turned down, I went on my own. I stayed at a Days Inn for $41 plus 7% tax. I've been to that DI before as it's in South Portland. It was just fine. They are very clean and have a decent breakfast.
