Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Joining Kris instead of keeping Mileage Plus

Need some advice please, I had been a UA 1K member but have moved to the UK in the past year. Now I am BA Gold and will probably drop to UA Premier Exec (have not flown United in a long time). If I am going to be flying Singapore in Business or First should I open a Kris account or continue to accrue United Miles??

Why not do both -- accrue miles in UA Mileage Plus and work on getting status (PPS).
My impression of KrisFlyer for earning and spending miles is not as positive as Mileage Plus. SQ is unique in offering a two track system for its members. You would lose 25% elite bonus (once you get to that level) when flying SQ but if you still credit within UA Mileage Plus, you continue building your ff miles in one account rather than splitting them.

Here is an older thread on the same subject:

How can one do both...give me UA MP number and work on PPS. Wouldn't i need to give a Kris number?

Everytime you fly SQ in paid J or F, you need to give them both your UA MP# and your SQ Krisflyer#. When you check in, double check by telling the agent that you want to earn miles on your UA account and that you also want to accrue PPS value on your Krisflyer account. Most of the SQ reps know about this. When the boarding pass prints, check it to make sure that the Krisflyer number is printed under your name, AND that UA*S or US*G is printed under the Krisflyer number - your UA MP # will not show up. (In your case, it should say UA*G, since you are 1K or 1P and thus Star Alliance Gold.)
You can do a search on the SQ board for more details.

Sign up for KrisFlyer...link your Mileage Plus number in your KrisFlyer profile, then give only your Mileage Plus number when booking/checking in. Your PPS Value will be tracked automatically under the KrisFlyer number.

Under the profile it gives a list of many FF accounts. Is this the section you are referring to? I added MP and Virgin and others...

I've been searching and get little info (hard searching for *alliance as the * wildcards). But it's on these lines and this thread is current so...
Looking at possibly needing 2-3 China trips a year and currently would use AA in J for around $5k r/t (up to 1st with miles). SQ only RTW is the same in J and only $1400 more in F. Seems like a nice upgrade AA v. SQ :) so the 2 questions I have are:
1) Which program should I combine with Krisflyer for point accumulation? Currently have a BMI I just signed up for for the bonus points and seems redemption is interesting with 1/2 miles + cash possiblilities and what seems low thresholds for *G. Is there anything better? Perhaps VS (though not *) or any other? (I would get to NYC or MIA by AA- only US flies to SDQ and no thanks)
and 2) where are rules printed for the SQ-Only RTW? Essentially want to know how many legs out of SIN can be taken. Otherwise understand it to be EWR-FRA-SIN-(insert side trips here)-EWR, period. (or LAX and you make your way from there) Is that right?

definitely Krisflyer!. I used to be a member with UAMP and hold Premier Executive for 6 years in a row, but realised that their level of service sucks.. So now all my mileage credit to KF (used to do double dipping but when it doesnt go through then will give u a necessary paining in the ash to claim the missing mileage). Now I am holding KF and MMLH (both have status QPPS and Hon circle)

I disagree. KF requires more miles than most other programs to get a free ticket. Only reason to accrue in KF is for upgrades on SQ flights (although some other *A programs also allow upgrades).
For good *A programs consider BD and LH while putting PPS credits towards SQ.

LH gives more miles I agree but when you try to redeem it costs more expenisve than SQ. :p. The reason I am earning mileage on SQ and LH cause I am based in Europe now and LH gives you fix amount of mileage for Intra european sector where as SQ doesnt..... So I completely disagree that KF needs more miles to get free ticket.... Thai airways is also expensive....

Could you maybe enlighten me - I honestly want to know as this would be of interest to me too - in which cases LH awards are more expensive than SQ ones. I mostly redeem for C class from SIn to Europe and while SQ is 110K in c and LH 120K in C the awards are not quite the same. SQ's doesn't offer a stopover and IIRC has less allowed transfers (LH 2 each way - 3 sectors).
I believe I can add stopovers on SQ for 10K a piece so I would be back to even square. Plus while redemption on LH is bad SQ doesn't shine here either and with only standard awards available on the new 'premium' routes with 773ER and A380 the cost for those SQ awards doubles making it prohibitively expensive at least for me. Any insight yo may have is appreciated
Cheers ...
Any advice or examples ylesmana about SQ awards being cheaper then LH's? I'm mean I'm sure you have experience with this so it Would be nice if you could share a 'little' bit of your insight.

flight within SEA is definitely one example (eg, Sin-Cgk hardly anyone can beat SQ). SQ doesnt apply the 10,000 miles if you take same day return flight where as LH does..... You just cannot see because of 773ER and A380 for redemption coz not all their aircraft has been upgraded to new biz and f class seat.... if all aircraft has been refitted I will confident that they will back to normal account.....
If you think LH cheaper then please go ahead and do what ever you want....
