I have 3 free night certificates to use in 2008 so OH and I are planning a long weekend in either Paris or Rome to make use of them. OH favours Paris and I favour Rome. I have read the review of both the Hilton Cavalieri and the Hilton ADT and my view is that the Cavalieri has the edge. We will be sightseeing in whichever city we choose. Can anyone please provide me with good arguments for and against either property that I can use to persuade OH that Rome is the better option (or indeed to persuade me that Paris is the way to go).

Is Executive lounge access more or less a given in both properties (I'm Diamond)?

Alternatively if there are any other European cities with fabulous hotels that will be great value for my free night certificates I'm open to suggestions. :)

As you pointed out, the biggest difference is that they are in different cities. I've recently stayed at both properties on award and at the Cav twice in the past two years. Here is my take:

* Cav has a better lounge
* As diamond, I have always been upgraded to exec floor at Cav, I had to fight for lounge access at ADT
* Cav is not in Rome and you will have to take a cab or a shuttle bus to sightsee.
* ADT is in Paris and and about a 5 minute walk to the metro
* Cav is more of a resort type hotel to me whereas ADT is more of an upscale city hotel

Both are very nice - I think the bottom line is which city you want to spend time in.

- As a Diamond, I have always been upgraded to exec floor at Cav, I have also always been upgraded to the exec floor at ADT, even a two room suite with a balcony with a (distant) view of the Eiffel tower on a two day award.
- The Cav also has nice indoor and outdoor swimming pools

Otherwise, I fully agree with the omegadeal. It is the city you want to visit that is the main factor for the decision.

I've been to both the Cav and the ADT on rewards. Like the previous posters mentioned, they are very different. Here's some points about my experience:

Cavalieri:
Far from town, you need to take a shuttle for 10-20 minutes (depending on traffic);
Much bigger;
Incredible decor/art;
Food is wonderful, more choices;
Executive Lounge definitely has better food/drink choices;
Rooms are the nicest I've seen -- soap menu, pillow menu, heated towel bars in bathroom, electric drapes...;

Arc De Triomphe:
Ten minute walk or inexpensive cab ride to town;
Average size hotel;
Conceirge desk is most helpful I've ever had;
Food is very good, not a lot of choice;
Executive Lounge has decent food/drinks, great views of the Eiffel Tower;
(Executive Floor) rooms are nice. There is a large "family room" available (did not get).

They are both great hotels in fantastic cities so I'm sure you will have a terrific time!

Executive Lounge has decent food/drinks, great views of the Eiffel Tower;
I was at the ADT in 2005, and the lounge was on the opposite side from the Eiffel Tower. Have they moved the lounge?
