Can you explain why you do not allow us to see available seating before we make a purchase?

They really do read it, and it has been answered before. The short answer is that it is on the roadmap for the website but there are other things that are more important to them that they are going to finish first.

See this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338453&highlight=seat+assignment) for more information, including the line from SteveHK, who works in the corporate offices, that discusses the status of this.

My money says the new reservations system with seatmap availability got royally screwed up during development.

The fact that refundable and non-refundable fares can't be compared on the same screen is very telling; in the background there are apparently two selling systems in use; one for refundable fares and another for non-refundable fares.

As for the seatmap functionality, who knows when it will come online. Programming shouldn't take years and years but apparently is a major problem.

I completely disagree with this. They have chosen to display them differently but that doesn't indicate in any way that there are two different systems in use.

Perhaps someone can call Reservations and book an itinerary with both a refundable flight and a non-refundable flight. I'm guessing B6's reservations system can't handle it.

You mean one way as a refundable and one way as a regular? You should never do this, especially with a carrier like B6 which prices all flights as one way tickets. If you have a Y fare and a non-refundable fare on the same ticket the most restrictive rules take precedence, effectively making the Y fare a very expensive non-refundable ticket. Just book two PNRs and call it a day.

I don't know of many carriers that allow you to specify different booking classes online for the different segments, though any travel agent should be able to.

You have guessed wrong. :-)

An itinerary can, indeed, have both a refundable and non-refundable segment, just like it can have segments with different fare classes.

I'm not sure why the website prompts bookings the way it does -- my *guess* is that it's because, more often than not, when people cancel travel (versus changing it), they cancel the whole thing, and not the outbound or return leg.

With JetBlue, this isn't the case. Each fare is treated independently with respect to the other-- for example, should your travel be booked on the same itinerary as:

April 1, JFK-SFO -- $199 non-refundable fare
April 4, SFO-JFK -- $499 refundable fare

You can cancel the outbound leg for a $50 cancellation fee, and the remainder would be put into a credit -- $149.

You can cancel the return leg for free as allowed for a refundable fare and get a $499 refund on your credit card.

You can cancel both -- you'd get a cancellation fee for the outbound leg, and a $149 credit, and a $499 refund to your card.

Glad to hear I guessed wrong and it is possible. There are times I would want to purchase a ticket but if the return is somewhat iffy, I may want a refundable fare. B6 sure isn't making this easy.

Not to redirect the focus of this thread but going with Long Distance's first part of his question, yes the people from JetBlue not only have read this forum but have read it. JetBlueFA, JAX2B0S, and SteveHK are some of the people have we've all come to appreciate here at Flyertalk. Dispite those three are not in the Forest Hills office, people at FSC have heard of us. I do know this from first hand. Ya'll all find out more about this in due time. What exactly? Well, you'll find out soon... :D:D:D^^^
