I was charged for an extra night at the Hilton Tel Aviv, after I had already left the hotel. I tried to get the charge refunded to my credit card, but wasn't getting anywhere with American Express or with the hotel. Here's the whole story:

So, on Friday evening, I called the Guest Assistance department at Hilton here in the U.S. After presenting the backup for my case to the one of the "Guest Assistance Service Champions", Darell Woodard, he told me that if the hotel wouldn't come through with the refund, that Hilton here in the U.S. would most likely dip into its pocket and refund the money. Since the hotel in Israel is most likely a franchisee, I thought that was pretty generous.

Anyway, today, two days later, I got a response from the hotel in Israel that they would refund the money. This was directly a result of Darell's enquiry to them.

I'm a lowly Silver VIP HHonors member, and to be honest I don't know how I became one, as before I've rarely gone to the trouble to give Hilton the number when I reserve or check in. In any event, this kind of service is a great way to build brand loyalty, and I will be more likely to stay at Hilton in the future because of this experience
