This coming sunday, I will be using the First Class lounge as a Diamond on my way from MNL to LAX. What should I expect? Any preference between the Pier and the Wing? I think I have 3 hours of transit time.
TIA!

Congrat!
Try both and see which one you like.
There are plenty of other threads on the HKG lounges. As a starting point, read the lounge section on the Cathay website. There is a good virtual tour there.

3 hours is enough time to visit both!

If you have 3 hours you can also try out the BA/QF F lounge. They had pretty decent food out last I was there.

But comparing with the Wing/Pier,it is nothing.

On the last trip to HKG, I had the chance to visit the BA/QF lounge and JL lounge over by the 40s. Stick with the Wing and Pier.
The only reason why I used the JL lounge was because there was a gate change for my flight to BKK. Originally, it was gate 63 and they changed it to 45. The food offerings are ok, but the lounge is old!!!
Back to the Wing and Pier, I must say it is getting VERY CROWDED. Especially if you're there early morning. It was the first time for me to see them turn people away for breakfast as all tables were taken. I wonder if there are any plans for expansion?

Cannot be that old. The HKG CLK Airport is less than ten years old.

It really depends on the time of day and gate assignments, it ebbs and flows. You are right that if you catch it at the wrong time the lounges (particularly F sections) can get pretty crowded which is unfortunate, but I haven't really seen any significant change in the past six months in average #s of people in there. You probably just get stuck with bad timing

That is how I feel too. I catch x-HKG flights 8-9am to PEK, PVG and TPE quite often. I normally arrive at the lounge (Wing or Pier) about 6:15-6:45am. The lounges are not crowded at all. It must be bad timing,
I don't have the opportunity to travel CX via HKG a lot. When I do, I usually enjoy using a Cabana at the Wing and then going to the Pier for a meal.

I was in the Jl F lounge in Nov. 2007. It is not a seperate lounge but a seprate area. The food etc. was nothing. Do the wing or the pier both are far superior.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd ask here....
I will be flying into HKG in F on CX and flying out in J. Will I have access to the F lounge based on my F arrival?

1 .Is F long-haul? Is J short-haul?
2. Which airline are you flying out in J?

F is 1600 miles and J is on CX and is 1300 miles. :D

I guess you should be given a F lounge pass if F is not available on your 1300 miles flight.

Funniest post I have read on FT in a long time. Guessing you want to keep the numbers down in the Wing/Pier?
My personal preference if I am originating out of HKG is to go straight to the Wing and then go to my gate from there. If transiting I will try and track down my gate and head to the closest lounge.
I like the Wing because it has those great views and a feeling of space but prefer the Pier sometimes as the Wing seems to get very hot.
Unfortunately CX gives their lounge access based on your upcoming flight, so when you flew in, you obviously had F class lounge access. However, if your are flying out J class, you are only able to visit the J Class lounge, unless your a OWE or a Diamond member.
