Diners Club Club Rewards - Club Rewards Points Earning Ratio Question

On the Diners website both the Carte Blanche Card and Diners Club Charge Card indicate that $1 = 1 pt = 1 mile. But under the FAQ it states:

Q: How many frequent flyer programs participate in Club Rewards?
A: Club Rewards features 19 frequent flyer programs, from a choice of major airlines [ $1 charged = 1 Club Rewards point = 1 mile, except for Diners Club Credit Card members $2 charged = 1 Club Rewards point = 1 mile].

Is there a 3rd card (Diners Club Credit Card) that is not listed on their website? I'm about to apply for the DC Charge Card, but want to make sure I'll be eligible for the $1 = 1 pt = 1 mile earnings ratio. Thanks.

If it exists at all, the Diners Club Credit Card was issued to individuals who were migrated from two discontinued cards: Montage and Carte Blanche Classic (not to be confused with the current Carte Blanche). I don't believe Citi ever accepted applications for the credit card. You want the Diners Club Charge Card.

Assuming you didn't ask for expedited anything (including overnight shipping -- not that I know whether they even offer that on new cards), probably a week or two. Even if you're approved in days, they then have to create the card, and send it snail mail.

Ie, not much different than any other card!

Thanks, hopefully I'll get it this week then as Friday would be 10 days. Haven't applied for a new card in several years so I forgot how long it took. Guess I was expecting sooner since Amex issued a replacement card for me in less than one day a few weeks ago, so I know they can print them pretty fast.

But that's why I asked about the expedited shipping in my previous post above, and emphasized "new" card! A replacement card is a completely different situation than a new card. In the average situation, a new card is not needed urgently (and so it's done by the normal process), but a replacement may easily be needed very urgently, so it's done by a completely separate expedited process.

Yeah, I agree. Although when you get right down to it these banks want your money. How long should it take to process your app? It seems like 2 days should be long enough...then add a day or two for printing/mailing your card...and then another 2 or 3 days for it to get to you. So it would be reasonable to think you could have it (without expediting) in just over a week...or 10 days like imsetuc said, considering weekends.

Snail mail can easily take 3, 4, or 5 days cross country (without considering weekends). And a lot of these cards seem to be mailed from either North Dakota (slow for east coasters) or Delaware (slow for west coasters).

So all the things you listed can add up to 2 weeks, if the application approval has to cross one weekend, and then the coast-to-coast low-cost mailing has to cross another weekend.

Also, you're assuming that everything is fast because it's done all the time. But while automated approvals may work that way, human approval may require someone who's tied up without some crisis for a couple days and won't look at your application till that's done (or until their colleage comes back from being out with the flu, whichever comes first).

Again, a week to 10 days is reasonable most of the time, but it's not far fetched that it could take even a bit longer sometimes depending on various behind-the-scenes events.

Valid points all. The rep I spoke with who took my application over the phone told me that she had to send it somewhere. Stupid me should have applied while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago. Now I need to make ~100k in charges and I'm stuck waiting on the card. Today it's day 7, so hopefully it's in the mail!

Really thought the card would arrive today (day 11) but it didn't. They definitely take their time processing DC applications. I applied for a Citi Platinum Select MC last Sunday night and I got an email from them on Wednesday informing me I was approved on Tuesday and my card is on the way. At this rate that card may arrive first.

So my card arrived today. Took 13 days in all. Not bad.
