Hilton HHonors - Additional HHonors Amex card

I was planning to get an additional card on my Hhonors amex account for my fiance in order to help with racking up points for our vacations and hitting the $20k spending mark. However, when I go to the page on the amex website where I apply for this additional card, it says that I will earn 1 point/dollar on purchases made with additional cards.

Is this correct? Additional cards on the account do not earn the usual 3 points per dollar (or 5 for certain things)? Seems like a strange policy to me.:confused:

it is correct. I looked into doing the same thing, and the other person only gets one point per $ instead of 3 or 5.
That devalues the second card quite a bit.

As far as I can tell, my wife gets the same points also, but when looking at the application for additional cards there as a bullet point:


You'll earn one Hilton HHonors bonus point on your account for every eligible dollar your Additional Cardmember spends. With more than one Card earning points, watch those Hilton rewards add up


now it makes me wonder.

thanks for the responses, could one of you possibly look at a recent statement to determine whether you are getting the normal 3/5 on the additional card member? thanks.

I have two HHonors AMEX cards that I just got in November. Both earn the 3x and 5x points. However, I asked for the additional card on the original application and there was no mention of the 1x points for the additional card. Perhaps it makes a difference on whether you get the 2nd card originally or as an add-on later.

I'm fairly sure both our cards earn similarly (but we've had them for some years - Flyer737 may have a point, in that this may be an "enhancement" for 3008?) If they did not, we'd merely request a personal primary card for my spouse, and Bob's your uncle, we've got points. (I have to admit, in our case it's much easier to assure the same HHonors account number, as we have a Mutual Fund Account - but because these exist, I suspect they may well have the ability to connect a distinct membership card to the same account.

At the AMEX page where you can get an additional card for someone now it states:
"You'll earn three Hilton HHonors bonus points on your account for every eligible dollar your Additional Cardmember spends. With more than one Card earning points, watch those Hilton rewards add up"

It seems like they increased the points from 1/$1 to 3/$1 for the second card. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a bonus for getting a second card?

Is it true that you can't get the 5points/$1 for groceries, gas etc with the additional card? What is the experience of people that have 2 cards?

Since starting this thread, I have gotten the second card and can confirm that the second card does get 3/$1 on everything and the 5/$1 on the specific items as une mentions.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere (I did some searching, and this thread seemed the closest fit), but does Amex/HHonors offer any bonus points for signing up an additional card member? I found a page for the SPG Amex that offers 1000 points per additional card, but nothing for the HHonors Amex.
