sorry if this is posted somewhere, but i can't seem to find an answer to a ? i have. i just booked at the westin paris for 4 nights in april, and would like to know: if i redeem my points for upgrades to a junior suite, is there any possibility to actually get the upgrade? i do realize i have to wait until 5 days out. also, if i redeem the points for upgrade and do not end up getting the upgrade, do i get my points back? i'm a lowly preferred, and am assuming the gold's and plat's would get the upgrades before they would give an upgrade to a preferred using redeemed points. is this right? thanks for any info

If it's available 5 days out you can secure it by calling. There's no waitlisting and no preference by status. Just if it's available when you call. I assume you are referring to a paid stay, BTW, as if it were on points entirely you could secure the upgrade now by paying a small additional amount of points per night.

Just to add, no points are taken from your account unless the upgrade is available when you call and is confirmed so there is no risk of losing any points.

thanks so much for the info, exactly what i wanted to know. yes it is a booked room, only using points for a hopeful upgrade for a special trip. 1st time to paris and europe. this Westin has been getting rave reviews on TA now that it is being renovated so we will see.

If you are using all points, then you can do this now, subject to availability of the junior suite. The 5-day thing is for paid rate reservations.

I would call back and ask to change your standard award reservation to a specialty select upgrade award reservation. That way it is locked in now if it's available now.
