I'm taking my first transcontinental flight on JetBlue in February from JFK to SFO. I heard that fuel stops were fairly common in previous winters. Have there been many fuel stops this year?

I've been flying BOS-SFO all month and we haven't had the need for a fuel stop. We've almost had to divert for fuel because of OAK CTR slowing everybody down due to weather problems in the bay area. However when we've left BOS we've had enough fuel to safely make it with out any thoughts of stopping for fuel. Loads are traditionally lighter now which alows for a higher fuel fuel load.

I wouldn't be worried.

JFK-SFO is well within the range of the A320. B6 recently took out a row of seats from their A320's making the TransCon easier on them. Also the headwinds (on avarage) are not as strong as they were in past winters. B6 has made mistakes before and will not want to make them again.

Winds are quite strong this week. Flying SFO-BOS we had an average 110kt tailwind the entire way. We still run into Transcon problems when the jetstream is strong. It is all going to depend the number of customers, how much baggage they checked, winds, and any ATC flow control issues in the Bay area. We've had a few JFK-SFO flights divert for fuel only because of the horrible weather in the Bay area and ATC slowing down the arrival traffic. BOS-SFO took me 7:28 this past Friday because ATC slowed us way down over DEN because of the rain and winds.

I think you won't have an issue as those 2 systems have pushed eastward and cleared out of the Bay area.

I was on 497 BOS-SEA last night and we would've made it in 5:45 if ATC hadn't slowed us up a little bit over the Cascades... we did a little loop over Skagit County and still blocked a little ahead of schedule... very impressive.
