Las Vegas - What happened to online hotel rate calendars?

It used to be that nearly every hotel booking website would show a calendar month, with the rates for each night that month. Now, it seems that they all require you to enter the dates you're looking for first and then show you the rates for that time period. The old way made it easier to pick a cheaper time to visit.... which is probably why they don't do it any more.
And on that subject... is summer still considered a down period in Vegas (outside 7/4)? I have generally been to Vegas every summer for the past few years because it was cheaper than fall/spring. Looking at airfares for this summer, they seem pretty high (upper 300s lower 400s) for a flight from DC. Just too soon to book?

The Harrah's properties have the rate calendars. Just click on Hot Deals.
Too early to book for summer.

The Downtown and off-Strip casinos that we stay at continue to have the rate/availability calendars.

I just wish they had a combined one, so you could easily compare rates for all MGM/Mirage properties for a specified date range.

www.kayak.com compares all properties, but you have to input specific arrival and departure dates.
Even though I rely heavily on these calendars, I always call the property to confirm the rates AND ask if there are any specials not listed.

Yeah, but I don't think it picks up the best possible prices for direct booking. At least I know it doesn't for HET properties.

That's why I use it as a trend/general pricing resource, zero in on a good rate, then go to that hotel's direct website.
