I'm currently hold Silver Elite status with Continental (equivalent to Elite Member) and I'm traveling on KE for the first time. I'm wondering how KE treats Skyteam Elites during the check-in process and seat assignment. I have a reservation on KE from DFW to ICN then ICN to SGN, return trip is ICN to NRT to LAX with automated seat assignment assigning me seats in the 50s row... can I ask for better seat assignment when I'm checking in?

You should be able to call now and change your seats. KE doesn't hold any seats as premium seats to my knowledge. If a seat is open that isn't for check in only then you should get it.

You can check in at the Morning Calm counter as a ST Elite, but they only give you pre-boarding if you're Elite +.

I tried calling them but they told the only way to get a new seat assignment is to change my current seat assignment at the check-in counter. Thanks dvs7310 for the reply.

What source tells you that ST Elite may use Morning Calm check-in counter? I'm pretty sure that Morning Calm check-in counter is designated only for KE ST Elite (Morning Calm) members. If they were to allow all ST Elite members using Morning Calm check-in counter, the line would be longer than that of economy. Imagine how many ST Elite members would be on a KE flight especially when DL Gold/Silver, NW Gold/Silver and CO Gold/Silver members are all ST Elite.

According to Korean Airlines web site... it's allowing ST elites to check in at morning calm counter....

SkyTeam Elite Member Benefits
Use of Exclusive Counter
Priority Seat Reservation
Priority Boarding
Priority Reservation Waitlist
Priority Airport Standby Without Reservation

You can definitely check in at the Morning Calm counter as a SkyTeam elite, but as previously said, sometimes economy is faster.

All or nearly all Skyteam members allow check in at the business class or airline elite check-in counter, depending on how they are set up. Korean Air has a counter for Morning Calm, but many others combine the elite counter and business class check-in counters.

Then ST check-in rule is somewhat different from *A check-in rule. *A Silver, which is equivalent to ST Elite, does not get such privilege. Good for ST Elite members.

I am a Czech Airlines (OK Plus) Silver card holder (Elite) - I just passed through ICN on KE and was able to get priority boarding even though I was Q class (ie discounted Y). Considering how quickly the overhead bins fill up that's a real significant benefit.
