Is it just me, or are people really starting to get pissed off about FC? I think it is really misleading, as a fare tool, in terms of its pricing. I have never found something remotely close to the displayed fares. Maybe I am just inept.

I know this has been discussed before, but, it's been especially aggravating as of late.

domestic US and fares to Mexico and so on are usually fine, Europe and Asia are useless.

There's a new fare that posted this morning, $308 from several WC cities to DE. "Mystery" fuel charge bumps it up. Very frustrating.

I'm starting to think the initials for Fare Compare (FC) are suppose to mean Fuel Charges, not Fare Compare?

Agree completely. ^ It is a misleading website and I can only hope more FTers noting it's flaws will encourage everyone to take that next step and try to find the fare in a much more reliable website such as ITA for a more accurate all in price that can be shared in these pages. :)

As you may recall, the separate fuel charge issue is what compelled Travelocity to do away with its flexible international airfare search. It would be a shame to lose the feature on Farecompare. Of course, the real culprit in all this is the airline practice of separating out the fuel surcharge. This practice may be prohibited by DOT regulations:

In view of these developments, the Enforcement Office will no longer allow the separate listing of “government-approved” surcharges in fare advertising. We will consider the separate listing of such charges in fare advertisements an unfair and deceptive trade practice and unfair method of competition in violation of 14 CFR 399.84 and 49 U.S.C. § 41712 and will pursue enforcement action where such violations are found.

November 5, 2004, DOT Notice; http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/rules/2004-11-15-DOT.pdf

Perhaps we should e-mail these airline fares to DOT for investigation.

Perhaps the rules here should be amended to mandate that any fares posted here are truly bookable. Clearly, using the term AI on a fare that doesn't include several hundred dollars in fuel surcharges is a sign a poster never attempted to fully book a flight.

I would rather say that the OP (not this thread's) should not illustrate the fare as if it's bookable. Otherwise, that's fine. (e.g. FareCompare shows AAA-BBB $xxx all-in, is this bookable?) since sometimes the poster is incapable of locating and determining if the fare is actually valid. Some will clarify eventually. There has been many misleading threads nowadays.

 Wouldn't it be good to actually post fares that are valid within these pages? With all the MR tools shared here it's not too hard to put them to good use and determine whether a particular fare is indeed valid, though it does take that extra few minutes to verify the validty.

The trend has changed on Mileage Run forum since FareCompare was introduced and now everybody can post deals here without verifying the legitimacy. This could be good or bad for Mileage Run forum depending on your standpoint. I would like to see more accurate posts here, but it's impossible unfortunately.

Maybe once it has been proven that the fare is not bookable, the mods should change the title to Not Bookable [NB] or Fuel Surcharge Missing [FSM]

Or at least check the fare out to see if anything is bookable before posting. Fuel surcharges suck. :(

This mod will amend the thread title to reflect the correct non-inclusive and all-inclusive fare levels.

Or at least check the fare out to see if anything is bookable before posting. Fuel surcharges suck. :(

That's what everybody here on the Mileage Run forum should do before posting any fares.

I have added an announcement to the forum to alert posters that this should be done before posting.
