Qantas Frequent Flyer - qantas and iberia rtw
hello, i am planning a kind of rtw trip for our honeymoon trip.
4-5 weeks (find below the flights). Using Oneworld flights. Most of the them with qantas.
We are Iberia frequent flyers but nor silver nor gold card holders.
Any suggestion in order to optimise/upgrade the trip??
I know it is not the forum, but any tip for hotel selection? is it worth to book 15 days with Meridien hotels, for example?
many thanks in advance for your help

Wlecome to FT inigo
Flights to and from PPT are not oneworld aircraft, Air Tahiti Nui, so may not be eligible, nor the SQ flight;).
Anyway congratulations inigo I hope you enjoy Australia, and are treated just as well on QF and Australians, on your honeymoon as Mrs Blackcloud and I were on our honeymoon last year by IB and your compatriots.:)

Welcome to FT inigo and congratulations as well. My honeymoon was in an old Dodge Neon across the US....
There are many things to say about this itinerary. First a question: Why class are you flying in?
Rather than booking what you have done, you could consider buying a OW Global Explorer ticket which covers all the flights you have except for the SQ one. Price in business class ex Spain is EUR 5899 plus fees. With this ticket you could add even more stops yo your trip.
The other thing to consider is your FF Program. IB is nice, but maybe you want to consider another program for this trip. If you are in business class, do the AA Platinum challenge. This will give you status soon and lounge access in many places outside the US.
Regarding hotels: If you want to stay with one chain, then Starwood is a very good choice for the destinations you are going to. They have some spectacular properties in Asia/Pacific.

Keep in mind that QF also fly SIN-DPS as well (though only a couple of times a week), so it's possible to get that leg included in any RTW ticket you purchase.

note that many of these QF numbered flights are actually codeshares:
QF324 is operated by Air North using single class E70 aircraft and is not a OneWorld flight
QF272 is operated by Jetstar using single class A320 aircraft and is not a OneWorld flight
QF208 is operated by Jetstar using single class A320 aircraft and is not a OneWorld flight
QF327 is operated by Air Tahiti Nui using A340-300 aircraft and is not a OneWorld flight
QF3827 is operated by Air Tahiti Nui using A340-300 aircraft and is not a OneWorld flight
QF3233 is operated by AA using 3-class 762 aircraft. This is a OneWorld flight
There are only 3 QF-operated flights in the itinerary, being QF2, QF925 and QF45.
There are no options to upgrade any of these codeshare flights. The only options for upgrading the QF-operated flights is to pay the fare difference or to use QF FF points and waitlist for an upgrade. When using points and waitlisting, the waitlist is prioritised by QF FF status. For QF domestic flights, if you have access to the Qantas Club lounge you can request an On-Departure-Upgrade using QF FF points.
thnks for the answer¡¡
Sadly we are flying full economy class. Budget matters¡¡ :-(.
I´ve paid 2.200 euros (3200 USD) plus taxes for each ticket.
We are considering Le Meridien hotels for Bangkok, Bali and Bora Bora mainly.
Should you have any other tip I´d be glad to hear it (seats in plane, etc etc).
Blackcloud: Really look forward to discovering Australia, 10 weeks and counting,,,too many websites visited getting information already
thnks again

The FF credit for L is not the best, because it is such a discounted fare (much worse than Y for the most part), and it also elminates some upgrade possibilities. Also in general flying a codeshare eliminates any chance for an upgrade; for example if you booked AA flight number instead of the QF codeshare, you can upgrade on AA in various ways; but the QF codeshare of the same flight LAX-JFK is never upgradable. The same applies to most of your itin, so it was optimized to prevent upgrades, for the most part. Not quite what you wanted to hear. Now being on QF code is good if you are crediting to QFF, but not so good otherwise. Of course the commision to your TA from QF is much higher than from AA, so they have a strong financial incentive to book you on the QF codeshares even if it is to your disadvantage.

Le Meridien is not an independent chain anymore. They are now part of the Starwood group which also owns Shearton, Westin, St. Regis, W etc.
And the Starwood group has some nice properties in those places you are visiting.
Just have a look at the Starwood forum here on Flyertalk. And sign up to their Preferred Guest Program. With some clever promotions you might get to Gold status on the way, giving you upgrades etc.

...We are considering Le Meridien hotels for Bangkok, Bali and Bora Bora mainly.
...LM was indeed purchased by Starwood but is run as a separate division, with different promotions and look and feel than Sheraton etc. LM tries to be more chic. Under Starwood the LM product has improved considerably; their prior problem was a lack of consistency across the chain. Some LM hotels were wonderful, while others were terrible. Fwiw in Bora Bora LM is generally considered to be the best value hotel (not hard to do given the stratospheric pricing there). My impression is that LM was weak in Asia while Starwood was quite strong there; perhaps LM is now up to standard, but the old LM was not competitive with the other Starwood hotels there. Of course in BKK the best is the Peninsula and several other non-big chain hotels.
