Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Seat assignments

I just got two business class award tickets for LAX to SIN in December thru AS Mileage Plan, hooray. I called Cathay to see about getting seat assignments and I was told that I had to wait until six months before the flight. I remember doing this a few years ago on Cathay and got my seat assignments right away and the flight was longer than six months out. I searched this wonderful forum, but didn't get a definitive answer. My question is this: Do I have to wait six months because this is an award ticket? It appears if I want to buy a ticket online for these same flights, I can pick our seats right then. If I just keep calling, is there a chance an kind agent will give my seats before the six month period? Many thanks for your help!

I made an award booking over the summer in F and also had to wait 6 months prior to departure -- so from my limited experience, it sounds right.

its 6 months for anyone in fact. they load seating plans 180 days out. Not sure with the assigment when you buy the ticket online tho. AFAIK, they put in the notes but they assign@ T-180

You should also bear in mind that CX changes equipment often. If that happens, your seat assignments can be lost.
