Budget Travel - One way fares, even on Big 6, are no longer priced through the roof??

I was always taught that oneway fares are priced to gouge on the major carrers. However, twice now, I've been looking for a OW CMH-MCO and CMH-JAX (fyi, over the summer, had RT booked on SWA, but needed to get there 2 days later than I had originally planned. More recently, found $69+tax return MCO-CMH, but was having trouble finding a cheap fare to get there).
Using Orbitz, I've found $100-125 fares, all in, one way. I was just wondering if this is strictly a Florida thing, or have other people found similar results?

No, it's an LCC thing. IAH, one of the most expensive airports to fly from in the country (trust me, I know  ) has low o/w fares to places WN flies to (ring a bell with FLA ? ). Example: IAH-DAL, IAH-AUS, etc, etc .... And actually got a decent fare IAH-DTW the other day for a last minute trip. But of course CO just recently dropped the bonus miles for booking online, so no point in buying two one ways :(:(

...and in Europe some (not all eg: AF/KL) legacy carriers have responded to LCC's by offering good web deals where they can leverage their hub & spoke system.

It's always worth checking out ba.com (http://www.ba.com), for instance, through one of the low-fare sites like dohop.com (http://www.dohop.com)

I've occasionally been able to get good fares (e.g. $145 LHR-AMS return all in) on KL in Europe by booking through nwa.com, even though klm.com wants to charge much more for the same itinerary. In the US, one-way fares tend to be reasonable to and from destinations which each have some LCC option, but still expensive if one of your endpoints is only served by legacy carriers.

that makes sense, esp with DL having NS flights to DisneyTown from CMH

Unfortunately the NW trick only works if you have a credit card billing address in US/Canada - unless you've found a way around it?:p

Nope; my card is based in the US. Though I'm sort of surprised there aren't transaction-proxying services for this sort of thing. (Is there any reason these would be illegal?)

That would be a disaster for anti-money laundering controls.

NW is still ridiculous in their O/W pricing, unless they have a lot of competition (such as LCC competition) on that route.

I can't fly YXE to anywhere O/W on NW if I want to pay less than $1500...meanwhile, R/Ts usually price at $450-$600. However, I could fly O/W on AC for around half the cost of a roundtrip...it's just not something I want to try! :P

This past December, I *did* luck out that CO had loaded a cheap EWR-YXE O/W fare...I paid less than $300 all-in (flying on NW metal).
