Travel Technology - Any Bose QC3 owners have this problem?

Ok so one day while I was adjusting my QC3 headphones I noticed if I cup my left hand over my left earpiece while it is on my head it makes a high pitched squeal, like really bad...

Can anyone else replicate this? I emailed Bose and they offered to send me a new pair but I want to make sure it isn't a problem with ALL QC3's before I part for four weeks w/o them only to have the same problem with the new pair.

For whatever reason they won't specifically tell me if it is a problem or not, just that they will trade them in for a new pair lol

Thanks!

I've had a similar problem on my QC2, along with a broken headband, and Bose replaced it. I actually just put it in an overnight envelope and they sent the replacement out the next business day. Faster than I expected.

My problem would happen even without cupping the earpiece though.

I think it sounds like feedback with the microphone used to detect the ambient noise. Not sure it would go away with a replacement. I don't think you would normally travel with your hands on your ears though.

I've seen it too - Bose is great about replacements tho.

Is this a problem or just "something that happens" since my QC2's have been doing this for a while now. Like if I have them on and lay my head (ear) on a pillow while watching a movie, it squeels highly, so I readjust and it goes away. It's like its a pressure issue. So, is this a "problem" with my headphones, and I should mail them in for fixin' or does this happen normally, as a side effect of having noise canceling turned on?

Never heard the high pitch noise on my QC3... but I will try it this evening!

where you applying pressure to the left side?, thus creating a suction?

Just wondering how suction would affect this?

It could be the reason-not sure...

No, I don't have to apply pressure for it to happen, just cupping the ear piece in my palm to adjust it does it which I now avoid doing. If I do apply pressure though it does get louder.

Bose replaced mine 5 times! Each year, without fail, the headbank develops hairline cracks which leads to the entire band breaking apart. Bose knows its the design and the last replacement they gave me seems fitter as they said that it has a better and stronger headband.

Oy, Made in China products!

I think the issue may be inherent to noise canceling headphones because of the microphones in the earpiece.

I use the Creative Aurvana X-FI headphones. The Apple store has these in stock and they've gotten better reviews than the QC2, which they are similar to but I feel much better because of the sound enhancement technology.

I like the fact that the Aurvana headphones can also be used without batteries unlike the QC2.

I had the problem on my QC2 and now, to a lesser degree, on my QC3. I always just thought it was inherent in the design, but will try some other QC3 at the Bose store this weekend. I'd love to find a pair that don't do it.
