The newest tool at airport security checkpoints is 3 inches long and costs only a few dollars: a handheld black light.
Airport screeners are starting to use them this month to examine driver's licenses and other passenger ID cards presented at checkpoints to spot forgeries or tampering. Passengers with suspicious documents can be questioned by police or immigration agents.

I noticed this when I flew MEM-ORD last week. They were checking everybody's ID's and several individuals got pulled out of line.

They used a black light to check my driver's license back on the 15th of December at BHM, but not at PDX on the return nearly three weeks later. I don't think it added any time.

They were doing this @ T3 in PHX back in November.

OMG! TSA spending even more billions to protect us from unknown terrorists, witches, devils and spirits. I expect an announcement very soon noting documents will be additionally inspected using infrared light.
