Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - AS689 LAS-YVR Not showing on schedule ?
Has anyone seen their flight disappear off the online timetable as well as not being bookable ? I don't see it on expertflyer either. The call centre girl indicated it is still operating but must be full (?!)... She didn't seem all that convincing.
Anybody have any insight on AS 689 for Jan 31st ?
I don't mind spending another night in Vegas but it would be nice to know beforehand :)
Called back Reservations today and this agent checked with her lead when I queried the fact that the flight had disappeared off the timetable. She confirmed that the flight will indeed be cancelled as of Jan 23rd but no one is notified until they actually pull the flight... I'm glad I kept an eye on things...I'm going to rebook on AC as I don't want to go through SEA...

YIKE! Say it isn't so. I love that flight.
I'm guessing they're getting killed by Allegiant out of BLI.

Could be another casualty to the upcoming schedule increases for SEA-California and SEA-ANC.

Are that many Canadians really rushing over the border to take Allegiants flight from BLI? That would surprise me.

1. Airlines don't willingly discontinue consistently profitable routes.
2. Refer to Rule 1.
;) What do you think RASMguy? :D

Well, I agree with you somewhat - with limited aircraft, there can be a shift to what is expected to be a more profitable route.

I think AS has lost quite a few of the casual vacationers to Vegas. Air Canada is cheaper flying out of YVR and the service isn't very different. I've flown AS about 30 times to Vegas and back in the last 6 years and this next trip in April will be my first time not flying with them. I booked on Westjet for less than $300 canadian while the Alaska flight was over $450 US at the time. I did get a $99 seat sale however.
Anyways, back to BLI. I personally know alot of people that live in Vancouver and east into the fraser valley that drive down into Bellingham to fly Allegiant. I seriously researched it this time but I just like YVR. The flight from Bellingham, with direct flights, would have come to $250US. That's about $200 less than out of Vancouver. The drive is about the same length for me from my house to YVR or to BLI. Too boot, parking is about $25 for the week at BLI and it's over $70 for the Economy parking at YVR.
This might not seem like alot of miles to people but I've got about 70,000 and I couldn't get a flight that I was willing to accept for less than 40,000 miles for a coach ticket.
I'll continue to check Alaska for up-coming flights and using my AS Mastercard but I can't justify spending an extra $150 for non-direct flights for a casual trip, when I don't use miles.
I'll be very dissappointed if 689 is cancelled because that is one of the best flights AS had to offer for that route (I personally like the early flight from YVR-SEA-LAS as well that leaves Vancouver at about 6:50am and gets into Vegas around noon)

Both BLI and Allegiant report that 1/2 to 2/3 of the passengers on BLI-LAS are Canadians crossing the border.

It's about 30 mins further for me to BLI vs YVR (including 5-10 at the border). When you factor in the 15 mins to get from the long term parking @ YVR to the terminal and extra time needed to clear customs @ YVR, it's close to a wash. Allegiant is typically 1/2 the price of AS. It's pretty hard to say no to.
First thing I did when I saw this was dial up the printed copy of the timetable to see if they had moved AS688/694 to operate BLI-LAS. Stranger things have happened..
I'm sad to see this flight go too...I'm still perturbed that I haven't been officially notified about it even though it's only 9 days from now. I had to chase someone down at Reservations to get an idea. Apparently, we'll be told as of Jan 23rd...
At least we have the AC flight passes so we just rebooked on AC for the following day. I feel sorry for those who are thinking that they're going to be flying non-stop YVR-LAS-YVR next week. They'll have no choice but to take the connections...

Woah! Sorry, xray - it looks like you were given some bad information. According to my very reliable sources, AS689 (LAS-YVR) and AS694 (YVR-LAS) are on the books until April 26, 2008, after which time they are pulled from the schedule, at least for the time being. The availability "glitch" should be fixed today. Actually, it looks like that may have already been done, as I can pull availability for AS694 on March 1. ^ If they are pulling out of the market effective January 23, that'd be news to me!
That is crazy ! I can't believe the runaround... If they don't know what's going on, they should have just said wait and see. I'm glad the availability will be fixed but I'm not so glad that I changed my flights and hotels around ! I guess I'll have to call Reservations yet again...
Still not showing anything for Jan 31st...
