Folks,

I've got a speed fine in Australia. Because I'm based in Germany I ignored the fine (AUS is not able to get money from me if I'm living in Germany!:p)

Now I've got the second fine. We are talking about 245AUD!!

I'm wondering if this will go to court and will be registered under my name. Because I'm probably travelling to AUS in 2008 or latest 2009 I'm not sure if they will notice the fine during the immigration process.

Does anyone has experience regarding fines in Australia.

Every help is desired!

Cheers Markus

I would pay up if you want to come back They may remember you. Did you get the fine through a rental car company ??

If you never intend to return to Australia, then I guess not paying the fine won't have any consequences:rolleyes:

Why not pay up?

You did the crime didn't you? So why not pay the fine?

They've got plenty of photoradar there, so its questionable whether or not you're getting due process and whether you actually did the offense. That said, I'd find out if they will keep you out of the country for that. Given that not everyone likely gets notified properly of this, I doubt they would send you and your tourist dollars packing. In general in any country, if you have outstanding fines be very wary of driving. Getting pulled over could land you in a lockup for the night.

Welcome to Australia, the land of the speeding fines. You won't find a better place to get pulled over. Plus they use radars here which are not allowed in most other countries because they are not accurate enough.

In your case, I have a simple answer: Pay. You were too fast, you got caught, you pay. Just be happy that you don't have an Australian license. Two times 5km/h over on a long weekend and you have just lost your license for some months.
