Can I subscribe to the Economist and pay for it in miles through any of the US mileage programs?
The Economist was offered under America West's magazine program in 2002. The subscription servicing company ( same one for all the mileage programs ) was never able to start the subscription.
Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

The closest I have come was buying 3 years during the Valumags bonanza last year. However, I know that is not what you wanted to know.

FWIW, the best rate for one year I found was $77 at two sources:

I think it is less when you use a coupon from the magazine.

Indeed.... $69 with this offer (https://www.economist.com/subscriptions/campaign_RegisterLogin.cfm?campaign=19-KVMP) from the horse's mouth.
As to using miles...
No luck with Continental Bus mags (http://www.continental.com/onepass/oMagazines.asp?SID=02086006BC0A4659824367865CEBA28 8)
nor NWA (https://nwa.mpmvp.com/magazine/choose.asp)
and no luck with MilePoint (http://www.milepoint.com/mall/magazine.asp)
I think that's it, so I think you're SOL.

The $69 offer is for the online edition of the magazine. From the link provided by Rut Dog:
"Please note that a subscription to Economist.com does not include delivery of print copies The Economist."

If you fly the USAir shuttle every week out of LaGuardia, you can pick up The Economist for free in the terminal -- along with about three dozen other pretty good magazines. One of the best shuttle perks (although I hope this is still true, since I haven't flown the shuttle in about a year).

I guess I will have to keep paying for the Economist in greenbacks.
BTW, all discounts mentioned were for students/educators.

PS. Can anyone post a brief description of the economics of the magazine business? For example, in general how much revenue do magazines get from ads vs. subscriptions vs. newsstands? Who are the major servicing agencies and how are they compensated/how do they interface with the magazines themselves (are they wholesalers of the magazine, or just subscription servicing providers?)
Thanks.

You can order it through Mypoints but it cost 12900 points.
So probably not easitly obtainable.

Using the $77 figure, that lowers your MyPoints to $.0060. Not a good value compared to these (and none of them require so many points):
