I am interested to see if the new flights to Bombay will stop via Bangkok or is nonstop. But great to see CX launching new flights to India. Also, it seems that CX is not fully utilizing all the quotas to India yet, don't they have a few more slots left to use?

In the link above, it mentions that CX can only serve BOM six times weekly and DEL 10 times weekly, but the PR states that it will fly 10 weekly to BOM and 14 weekly to Delhi?

I also wonder why CX gave up Bangalore to KA instead of operating CX services.

I think this is the getaway how CX can serve 10 flights weekly to BOM

From link above, there is nothing all too interesting except for the keyword "27 NEW frequencies" So, the existing ones doesnt count. 6 new service to BOM and 10 to DEL.

And, they have used up the rest of the quota. 7 to Bangladore BLR and 4 to Chennai MAA.

from the above mentioned PR:

In addition to the Cathay Pacific India enhancements, sister airline Dragonair will launch a daily flight to Bangalore, the country's information technology hub, on 1 May, using an A330-300 aircraft.

this is very good development in itself, hope they will keep deploying KA on other SE Easia routes as well

I'm glad finally there is a non-stop option from HKG to MAA. it was about time.

Hopefully some of these new services to Mumbai will be non-stop and at better times. I've only used the route twice so far, but both times I really wished for a nonstop option btw HKG and BOM that didn't kill my entire night of sleep on the return.

the good news is... the newly added flights to BOM (CX682/3/4/5) are non-stop flights to BOM.

Great news! It's good to see daily flights, direct flights, and flights at (sometimes) more convenient times. Now, if only they had some with an F cabin...!

Absolutely. This route would definitely suck out SQ traffic from the bay area. Now CX is going to be the first choice carrier into MAA from SFO/LAX.

A lot of traffic on the Pacific route from India to MAA on Singapore had a lot of connecting traffic to BLR and HYD. If you look at CX operations in South India, they used to pick up decent loads from BLR and HYD via SIN and BKK (and CMB when they had operations there) connecting to CX in those Asian connecting points.

Rather than suck traffic away from SIN, they may simply reshape some of their travel patterns. They will route BLR traffic directly on KA. They'll use MAA to route traffic connecting to them via CMB, BKK and SIN.

Don't forget that India-North America traffic is growing at a very high rate. While there may be an initial fight for market share, the market is growing so fast, that the increased capacity will quickly be absorbed by traffic growth. There is also likely to be some traffic stimulation with increased frequency and connectivity.

That would be great, one less stop via HKG (I've flown SQ1/SQ2 between SFO and HKG often and there are a lot of passengers heading for India on that flight), and it looks like the onward connecting flights to BOM or DEL can connect either from the daytime or evening SFO - HKG flights.

That said, I think the travel to South Asia is growing fast enough so that there will be growth for all carriers. I do wonder on how the total travel time compares with going the other way, e.g, flying LH from SFO to FRA and then connecting to Indian destinations? That flight was really popular with business travelers from Silicon Valley.

travel time on CX to BLR matches with that of LH which will lose the 'bangalore express' tag to kingfisher's nonstop BLR-SFO in august & the heat of CX's 'better' flights.

that said, its ironical that asian airlines are ramping up their ops at BLR. SQ's bringing a bigger 773 on all flts, thai adds 3 more flts, tiger starts new 4 weekly to SIN, added to dragon's daily 333 & kingfisher nonstops to SFO & NYC; most of them carrying a fair amount of west coast traffic.

it's really taken time for airlines to realize the lucrative india-california market.

had a look at the flight schedule to BLR, departure 21:40 and arrival around 0:30 next day. Considering the aircraft does a quick turnaround at 1:40 it is, at least for me a good schedule, because can leave HK after a workday and be ready for start the following day.

afaik LH fills up to the gills mainly economy on these flights, so no surprise if their indecent product will be deservedly trashed not only by CX/KA but also by relatively newcomers Kingfisher, both vastly superior in service and comfort. Besides I never completely understood why one has to endure a longhaul to FRA, with all its associated LH-induced mess, and then another one to the final destination in US west coast, when can be more comfortably and directly fly to the destination.
And yes my friend: CX is a 'better way to fly' than LH.

Interesting to see that both BLR and MAA are not listed on CX "book flights" tab, on both CX India and CX International version.

Well, Chennai doesn't start until June right? Maybe the schedule isn't set yet? And BLR is on KA. Would it show up on the main CX website?

CXBA,

could'nt agree more, someone to blow the s***t out of LH, AF & EK.

G-man82 & pacificboot,

BLR starts May 1 & MAA starts June 1. bookings haven't started though.

1 hour is not enough for a turnaround on a 333, maybe the sked gets updated at a later stage.

no F, so either type 2/3; presume its type 2 with a more spacious J seating.

Yes, it will be the long haul (lie-flat) configuration.
