Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Can someone from Y join a J passenger whilst sitting on the ottoman?

In light of the lack of new topics recently, i shall start one..
If i fly the new 777-300er in J, can a friend of mine, who is sitting in Y, come join me in J during the flight? (e.g. after the meals, before takeoff)? or hell, can he join me for a meal?
thought i'd throw something random out there
Its hard enough for someone in J to come and sit on the ottoman. I don't have a big bum, but I didn't find it large enough or comfortable enough to sit on at all.
It's not possible to share a meal in the one seat. The table is not large enough for one tray let alone two settings.

The ISM needs to okay that, but if he/she does, she will do that reluctantly. In general, people from Y going to the J cabin are strongly discouraged, as CX wants to minimise disturbance. I once asked the ISM if my wife could swap seats with me (I got two op-ups, but my wife was staying behind). She OKed that very nicely, but asked us to do it at most twice and quietly during the flight so that the J passengers would not complain. I only needed to do the swap once so that my wife could sit in the front.

I was under the impression that thing in J wasn't an ottoman...isn't there something on the side that says not to sit on it? I thought it was just a footrest, nothing more.

I can't remember if there was a sign or not, but for sure it's not big enough for someone to put their bum on for more than a minute or two.

There is a sign (you can see it, sort of, here: http://www.christen.demon.co.uk/NewCX/View_from_15A.JPG ) and it isn't big enough for an adult to sit on.
Moreover, if you want to travel in J then pay for J. I'd be pretty p'd off if my flight was disturbed by some freeloader from Y chatting away to their friend, impeding the aisle (as attempting to sit on the footrest would do) and so on...
Having said that, the new J is not suitable for people wanting to travel as couples anyway. There is no way for two people to travel together even if they do both buy J. This is one of the many problems with the new product.

Ahaha yes, well put.

actually the foot rest Ottoman is there for J passengers to sit on whilst reading the newspaper since you cannot do this difficult act within the new coffin pod seats now.
I hear CX will soon do away with newspapers on board for J passengers citing a survey from the same 'passenger driven' midget people they supposedly consulted on the design of the new seats

IIRC, for CX J product, only those ottoman on 744 upper deck are with seat belt. This makes your fd/mate sit with you when seat belt sign's on (not inc. take off and landing).

I don't recall seeing any seat belts on the J ottoman, despite having been on HKT twice already. There are seat belts on the F ottoman though (HKT and HKV).

Can you please state facts rather than your childish mindset.
It is perfectly fine and possible to read a broadsheet newspaper in the new J seats, just recline the seat a little. Actually it is more comfortable than the old seat as you have a fully supported leg rest that goes up all the way even when you recline (compare to the old one) and the ottoman helps.
On the 74A upper deck it is definitely possible to sit on the ottoman and chat, and even have a snack together (because the table is not that big.
Not possible on the lower deck or 33B as the ottoman is smaller.
I think the reason why CX didn't introduce a full size ottoman is to avoid people freeriding into J Class from Y.

There are NO seats belts on the upper deck 74A for the ottoman. You must be thinking of VS or NZ.

I know CX calls it an Ottoman, but it's not. A.) it does not have seatbelts and B.) there is a sign on it that says NOT TO SIT ON THE "OTTOMAN". Even thought CX markets it as an "Ottoman" in name, they admit it's just something to put stuff under, aka a footrest with a space underneath. That's CX's definition of "Ottoman."
And fyi, no ottoman and "too skinny" and whatever, I still take new J over old J any day.

Actually i think BA also call the foot rest part an ottoman and it is also can't be used as a seat as it is ultra flimpsy!
