Caroline sdsearch Jan 12, 08, 9:35 am Hi everyone ! I have a question about this Spring Promotion. I'm going to Florida in April and I reserved hotels rooms with TripRewards in december. According to the T&Cs for this promotion (https://www.triprewards.com/double/terms.cfm), you have to book after Jan 10. Since they spell out the specific booking dates and the stay dates are different, it seems clear that according to the rules your existing reservation will not count. If you cancel and then rebook that should get around it. But make sure that there are still rooms available at rates you want before you cancel. (If it'll be easy to tell which is the new reservation and which is the old one, you could try doing the new booking first, and then cancelling the old one. But make sure you don't cancel the new one by mistake if they are hard to tell apart! The simplest way I've found in the past when I needed to do that was to first make note of the existing reservations confirmation number, since the confirmation number may be the only way to tell them apart once they're both booked.) 236Dakota Jan 12, 08, 11:29 am Thank you! caro2 Jan 13, 08, 9:23 am Thank you sdsearch for your answer... I'm going to do what you say and to write down the confirmation number before reserving another room !! By the way, another question : is there any fee to cancel a reservation ? Thanks again ! Caroline Better check Tripadvisor.com on the quality of locations. I checked out some Quality Inns at Naples, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. Beware of the Naples' location. Ratty! Comments like "This is the worst Days Inn I have been to" are common. The only decent location where I go appears to be the Ramada in Homestead. It used to be a Hampton, and if they left the rooms as they were with the Hampton, it should be okey. I can't seem to find any Wyndhams in south Florida. caro2 Jan 15, 08, 11:55 am Thanks for your advice ! I already know tripadvisor and have checked most of the hotel I have chosen... They seem OK ! By the way, I have send an email to the customer service to ask if my points will be doubled even if I reserved the rooms weeks ago... Jan 24, 08, 9:46 pm Before I choose the wrong earnings style for this promo I want to ask if anyone sees any flaws in my logic. I am new to Triprewards so bear with me. As I see it, normally one can earn 2 FF miles per dollar spent on room rate with most airlines. However with this promo one earns 4 per dollar. If one's earning preference is points the normal 10 points/dollar goes up to 20. (Yes, I realize this is not rocket science.) I just booked a stay with a total room rate of $373.46. I am going to assume they round down (correct me if I am wrong). So I should get 4 * 373 = 1,492 miles. Yet I see that one can redeem points for miles at a rate of 8,000 points for 3,200 miles. If I change my earnings preferences from miles back to points I should get 20 X 373 = 7,460 points. Very close to 8000. Am I missing something? I suppose if one had one or two nights planned for TR hotels that earning miles instead of points would be the way to go. But it seems like a no-brainer to take the points as I will more than double the resulting miles with only one more night. I don't see anything on line limiting me to switching my earnings style (like Starwood does I think). Do I need to be elite to get the 8000/3200 conversion rate? I originally chose miles just to get a one-night stay post to my DL account for a partner promo DL is running. But I liked the Wingate so much I am booking it again. sdsearch Jan 27, 08, 9:24 am Before I choose the wrong earnings style for this promo I want to ask if anyone sees any flaws in my logic. First of all, be careful about when you switch your earnings preference. I don't know if we know when it has to be done at TripRewards. At Choice what matters is your earning preference at the time of booking. At HHonors (with regards to "My Way" earning choices) what matters is the earning preference at the time of checkout. And at Priority Club what matters is your earning preference at the instant the stay posts. So I would make sure your Delta stay has posted before you change it to something else. And if you're not sure whether your preference can be changed successfully after booking (it can't at Choice, at least not online), you may want to even wait to book the WIngate until the Delta has posted. Meanwhile, it appears that TripRewards has an "out-of-kilter" point-to-mile redemption ratio. The only danger is that they might realize this, and adjust it to more closely match their points-to-mile earning ratio. I've never before heard of a program which earns 5:1 points to miles and yet lets you redeem 2.5:1! So while that's great, I wouldn't count on it lasting forever. So if you can earn those points quickly and transfer them quickly, that's fine. If they'll have to sit a long time before you can transfer them, there's a risk IMHO that the ratio won't be as good by the time you get there. (Priority Club used to have a 2.7:1 ratio to AA at 67k point or greater transfer amounts, then got rid of it without warning overnight a few years ago. Then a few months later they changed their regular airline redemption from 4:1 to 5:1, again without warning. Amtrak changed their redemption to Choice from 1:5 to 1:3 without wwarning just two months ago. So the points world si full of transfer devaluations happening with little-to-no notice. And 2.5:1 is unheard of anywhere else in the hotel world where points are earned 10 per dollar...) Sharpie1 Jan 27, 08, 10:17 am Double Points/Miles through May 15, 2008 https://www.triprewards.com/double/ This program is new to me as well. I appreciate the information and am certain the questions will be forthcoming. I have not used triprewards, mainly because I get additional points/miles booking through the branded sites. So are there additional benefits to using triprewards, as opposed to booking elsewhere? Brendan Jan 27, 08, 5:18 pm Evan!, ever since the start of TR in 2003, the ratio has been the same. People who earn points & build up to 8000 or more get 2x the hotel points of those who directly deposit miles. IMO it's like that to reward the (semi-)frequent stayer over the 1-timer. Evan! That's good to hear. The point:mile ratio is pretty good without the double points promo. With it, the ratio is great!
