I recently missed a conection on CX in HKG in paid J. As with most everything on CX , the service was great . The lady in the black dress on the incoming flight told me to see the ground staff as I get off as I would not make my connection. Ground staff at the end of the jetway had my boarding pass and hotel/dinner voucher ready to go. They put me up at the Regal at HKG which is a good standard hotel . When I checked in they gave me a voucher for $180 HKD. This did not mean much to me at the time but later found out that if I put that and another $180 HKD , I might get a decent meal at the hotel ( which was the only palce the original vocher was good at ) . Dont get me wrong . I am not talking about anything fancy. Just regular food . I was on expenses so it did not matter that much to me. I actually gave my $180 HKD voucher to a KIWI family that missed my same flight as I saw them looking at the prices at one of the resterants and remembered them from the plane. My question to the CX experts on this board , is the $180 HKD normal for a J class passenger ? I travel @ 250k bis miles a year and this is the first time for this in HKG on CX . This is what I would expect from AA not CX. This is not a rant just a question / observation.

The difference is that AA will put you up in a 2/3-star hotel and a US$15-20 voucher. However, that amount will be OK in such a hotel. On the other hand, CX put you up in a nice hotel, but the meals in the hotel were much more expensive.

At least at the Regal hotel you have the option of a walk back to the Terminal where there is a large choice of food outlets at all price points.

Terminal 2 has an even greater selection these days.

But yes, you can't use that voucher there.
