I am interested to know that too. I may try that my next trip, but spending US$150 more... It sounded like co-payments to get award with AA miles. chinatown Jan 9, 08, 9:28 am Im not gold or dm. or even MPC for that matter. But am buying an H fare in order to upgrade with miles. Is there something im missing with the GO/DM audience you targeted? sxc Jan 9, 08, 9:45 am Anyone GOs/DMs has tried to buy a K class or up in order to eligble for miles upgrade instead of getting some lowly V/L/M fares so far? What's the point of this question? It's not hard to buy a K class fare. It just costs more. Kit Angel Jan 9, 08, 9:51 am I always buy the lowest eligible economy and use miles to upgrade. No company tickets for me, all out of taxed income. QRC3288 Jan 9, 08, 9:57 am What's the point of this question? It's not hard to buy a K class fare. It just costs more. Ditto. Call CX reservations. Say "I want K class." End of story. pacificboot Jan 9, 08, 10:18 am Last November when I booked my flights to Hong Kong, CX.com priced out M class tickets. I called online services, asked for at least a K fare, and I was put on hold for while, asked for my Credit card details, and got it ticketed. The bad thing was I didn't get the online bonus miles with my CX Citi card. ny911 Jan 9, 08, 11:30 am What's the point of this question? It's not hard to buy a K class fare. It just costs more. All my previous U class bookings were upgraded from lowly V fares, which was one of the best highlights of MPO. But it is no longer available. I normally don't need high flexibility on all my bookings. Therefore, now I am still thinking whether I should spend 200 pounds or HKD 3500 more to buy some K or above fares in order to burn my miles. ny911 Jan 9, 08, 11:32 am Last November when I booked my flights to Hong Kong, CX.com priced out M class tickets. I called online services, asked for at least a K fare, and I was put on hold for while, asked for my Credit card details, and got it ticketed. The bad thing was I didn't get the online bonus miles with my CX Citi card. What's the the price difference between a K class and the lowest miles earnable fare on your routing? You are a GO,you should be able to get some V or L fares if you don't need to do miles upgrade. Btw,wasn't that someone confirmed online bonus miles could be given even calling the e-service centre to issue the tickets?? ny911 Jan 9, 08, 11:33 am I always buy the lowest eligible economy and use miles to upgrade. No company tickets for me, all out of taxed income. Same here.:( ny911 Jan 9, 08, 11:36 am Im not gold or dm. or even MPC for that matter. But am buying an H fare in order to upgrade with miles. Is there something im missing with the GO/DM audience you targeted? GOs/DMs can use the privilege of guaranteed lowest miles earnable seats even the flight was seriously overbooked. In this situation, non-GOs/DMs have to spend more money to buy a higher booking class ticket. I haven't bought any tickets higher than L class in Economy for a long time since I was a GO. ny911 Jan 9, 08, 12:23 pm I am interested to know that too. I may try that my next trip, but spending US$150 more... It sounded like co-payments to get award with AA miles. I don't mind spending more for a H class ticket to attain one more AA Plat/EXP status if I need to. For people like me,only holding one Oneworld status,it is more difficult to plan to pay the best valued tickets. On the other hand, using Asia Miles to upgrade from W+ to J on BA HKG-LHR-HKG still remains 30K miles, which is much cheaper than CX's. But it seems more difficiult to grab some BA Us now. Black Adder Jan 9, 08, 6:14 pm I don't mind spending more for a H class ticket : Yep, it's worth the extra couple hundred bucks for an H fare to get 70% mile credit towards my JAL account as opposed to the 50% for an M fare. TerryK Jan 9, 08, 6:33 pm What's stupid about the new policy is the requirement that you must hold a confirmed booking in coach before you can request upgrades. :td: You need multiple bookings when you need to waitlist for different days, which is almost always the case. I end up with five PNRs for an upcoming trip. Utterly stupid. It is like the government "make work" program in the depression. There wasn't enough work to go around so CX created work opportunities for their phone agents by this new rules. ny911 Jan 9, 08, 6:57 pm Yep, it's worth the extra couple hundred bucks for an H fare to get 70% mile credit towards my JAL account as opposed to the 50% for an M fare. But I am just holding Asia Miles/MPO,which earns me 100% miles no matter B/H or V. hemz88 Jan 9, 08, 8:05 pm The bad thing was I didn't get the online bonus miles with my CX Citi card. book with online services and you will get - i've done it. kaka Jan 9, 08, 8:52 pm book with online services and you will get - i've done it. since you cant select the subclass YOU want, you can only wait until MLVs inventories are 0 before you'll get K :td::td::td: sxc Jan 9, 08, 9:34 pm since you cant select the subclass YOU want, you can only wait until MLVs inventories are 0 before you'll get K :td::td::td: When booking ex-HKG you can "Search by Fare". You will then get a choice of fares. When you get to the confirmation page it will show the booking class. If it's not the correct class, go back and choose a different fare. hau cheng Jan 9, 08, 10:05 pm This is hard, particularly if you are getting an agent to book a fare, to say 'nothing lower than K please'. It's getting hard to spend accumulated miles on upgrades if you have one of the lower fare classes. pacificboot Jan 9, 08, 10:23 pm book with online services and you will get - i've done it. Well when I called, I asked if I could get the bonus, and the agent said No. And when I checked my MP account, there were no "online" bonus miles. So I don't know what the deal is. It's a pity though, since the only reason I asked online services for assistance is because the CX website can't price out anything higher than K for non ex-HK itinieries. Ann Tyrol Jan 9, 08, 11:01 pm With the recent changes, have they shortened the deadline for confirming the ticket? We booked Biz class upgrades for flights in July and have to confirm the ticket + upgrade by mid February (which seems a lot sooner than they use to allow) cxfan1960 Jan 9, 08, 11:08 pm With the recent changes, have they shortened the deadline for confirming the ticket? We booked Biz class upgrades for flights in July and have to confirm the ticket + upgrade by mid February (which seems a lot sooner than they use to allow) Yes, they do. My wife was given a deadline of less than one month from the booking date to ticket, instead of four days prior to departure as in the past. I suppose they are finding ways to avoid people holding award dates. cxfan1960 Jan 9, 08, 11:16 pm This is hard, particularly if you are getting an agent to book a fare, to say 'nothing lower than K please'. It's getting hard to spend accumulated miles on upgrades if you have one of the lower fare classes. It can be done. I asked my TA to ticket my wife on K so that she could ticket her upgrade. hau cheng Jan 9, 08, 11:37 pm It can be done. I asked my TA to ticket my wife on K so that she could ticket her upgrade. You can ask, though sometimes just getting a seat itself is a task during high demand periods. chinatown Jan 9, 08, 11:43 pm Just a quicky for all, if you want to check exact fare costs , you can go use a database called Fasebase at www.aerohkg.com . There you can see all the fares from CX and their costs. cxfan1960 Jan 9, 08, 11:57 pm You can ask, though sometimes just getting a seat itself is a task during high demand periods. My wife was lucky. With an additional flight SFO-HKG, there are more seats available (and more award seats too). You, as MPC Silver, should have pretty good priority in getting a booking cleared. sxc Jan 10, 08, 12:01 am With the recent changes, have they shortened the deadline for confirming the ticket? We booked Biz class upgrades for flights in July and have to confirm the ticket + upgrade by mid February (which seems a lot sooner than they use to allow) The rule used to be that if you are able to confirm an award, then you must ticket it within 30 days of the confirmation or 10 days prior to departure, whichever is the earlier. If you are waitlisting for an award, it used to be that you could waitlist up to 10 days before departure. Within the 10 day period, you could not wait list but could only call up everyday and see if there was availability. There was leniency given to Gold and Diamond members if you reached the 10 day period. Is your current experience any different to what I described? cxfan1960 Jan 10, 08, 12:14 am The rule used to be that if you are able to confirm an award, then you must ticket it within 30 days of the confirmation or 10 days prior to departure, whichever is the earlier. When I book an award ticket for my father a year ago, it was confirmed (confirmed X/waitlist U outbound, confirmed U return) in January, but I had until end of April to ticket for a May flight. sxc Jan 10, 08, 12:21 am When I book an award ticket for my father a year ago, it was confirmed (confirmed X/waitlist U outbound, confirmed U return) in January, but I had until end of April to ticket for a May flight. You had a sector that you were still waitlisted on. Therefore they still allow you to delay your ticketing. I had a situation where I had a confirmed outbound and inbound award reservation, but I was still waitlisted for other flights as my confirmed flights were not my preferred dates. I was able to delay ticketing until 10 days before departure. |
