Fax?

That line also serves the toll free calls coming in from overseas. Since the combination of Dragonair Elite members, MPO seems to be overwhelmed. perhaps its time for you and other MPO members to address this issue with your MPO coordinators?

No suggestions! This is a terrible problem of the MPO line if you don't have another number. It is busy incredibly often, and it has been going on well before the full integration with KA

Ha! I logged on tonight to start the same thread! Have been trying every half hour since 10am, and it's always engaged. It's now about to turn 7pm, and still no joy.

I guess I'll try the fax line, but given the scarcity of some awards, it's so much easier to talk to someone and do the back-and-forth live on the telephone.

Maybe everyone ringing up to complain about their CX experiences over the holiday period?

After calling bang on 9am, I finally got through to someone at 9:30am.

Have they changed the rules re booking an award and then booking the flight? I wasn't allowed to reserve an upgrade award without giving them a flight reference booking number. Previously I could book the award and then book the corresponding flight?

Have they changed it? Sorry if this has been raised before - but it strikes me as strange that they give you a bunch of available days, and then make you take a booking - and then you have to call back with the booking ref - with the risk that the days are no longer clear (plus there's the ridiculous wait for a CS agent).

That was what was discussed here before. However, my wife was able to book an upgrade on AM online, then later called her TA to get a booking. On the other hand, the deadline was like 20 days before departure instead of four days as it used to be.

I am confused now about how upgrade works now.

I just read the AsiaMiles terms and conditions and found clause 23.2. It basically says that to confirm the upgrade award booking you must have on hand tickets purchased for the same flight. Now we know that in order to issue the award ticket you must already have your Y class ticket. However, CX has in the past been lenient in allowing you to confirm your reservation, and then ticket it later. Seems like they are now complying more strictly with their terms and conditions, but still not as strictly as the T&C allow (ie they let you just quote a non ticket issued booking reference, not a full ticket number).

book with a TA using yr AM/MPO# Then call MPO and they will give you an upgrade booking. You will have to provide them with yr ticket nbr before the upgrade is issued. You can also purchase the ticket online at CX (same booking class!!) if cheaper than your TA

I had the MPO service officer book me a K class reservation at the same time as placing my upgrade request. She said that if I want to purchase a ticket through a travel agent, to make the booking with the travel agent, and then ring up to cancel the booking that CX made for me.

Thanks all for feedback (and sorry to OP for hijacking the thread!)

The MPO person said that she couldn't make a reservation for me (I'm guessing I don't have the appropriate status). Fair enough if it's in the T&Cs and they're only now enforcing it.

*sigh* I remember the good old days....

Not sure why the hotline is so busy these days though. There was a time around last October when everyone was ringing to try and issue their tickets before the new rules came into effect that it was busy, but after that it calmed down and it was easy to get through.

Just this week it has become ridiculously engaged again.

A reminder that the hotline is open 24hrs, so you don't have to wait until 9am to ring up.

sxc - many thanks for that; I was not aware it was 24hrs now. Very useful information!

p.s. I am guessing that the rush is MP's trying to get flights in and out over Chinese New Year. They're probably leaving it a bit late, but I guess some people never learn :p

The MPC number has been 24 hours for as long as I have been a member (i.e. 8+ years), except for a very brief period (I think it was during SARS). Calling around midnight to 1am HK time I have never had any difficulty getting straight through and getting a good agent. HK office hours are a different matter though.

I concur with christep. Never a wait when calling after office hour HKG time. :p It is convenient when you are calling from, say USA. The trouble is sometimes you get really inexperienced agents who take forever to do anything. :td:
