I booked a room in San Diego prior to christmas using priceline. I booked the intial night only, then having judged the hotel I would extend to 5 or 8 nights depending on our whim. Anyway, the hotel I ended up with had awful reviews on tripadvisor (paradise point resort in Mission Bay), we decided to eat the cost of the room ($100) and stay elsewhere.
Have you ever eaten the cost of a room because you've ended up with a crummy hotel... yes, even after using bb and BFT?

I skipped a PL room in Seattle last year. Went to a friend's house for dinner & stayed so late they offered me their guest room for the night. Not planned that way, but still I did not show up at the Ren. No consequences that I know of.
Done it plenty of times - sometimes I get rooms in Bangkok for $25-30 and depending on my travel schedule, don't end up using them. No consequences so far...

I have yet to NOT use a reservation I have made on Priceline/Hotwire... and I am well over 100 room nights from those sites. I usually do not even look for a room until I am pretty sure of my other plans...
But I could see where it would happen.

Maybe I'm not very imaginative, but I don't understand what consequences there could possibly be.

I have. Booked a room on PL near an airport for the night before an early flight and then changed the flight to a different date. Why should the hotel care?? I bid on a room for the new date so PL should be happy since they sold two rooms rather than only one.

I sort of did. I booked a 5 night stay in Toronto for a wedding anniversary - and got a deal of about 25 UK Pounds for a Marriott. I then decided I should probably treat my wife to a little better - so I booked into the Royal York for 3 nights where we spent our honeymoon.
We used the Marriott for the 1st and last night of the 5 day stay - using the Royal York for the 3 days in the middle. We left some of our stuff in the Marriott to save us carting it over town. I did tell the hotel I would not be in for 3 days - they did not bat an eye lid. We even went back to the hotel to use the loo, etc when out shopping (never been one for using public toilets).
My wife knew nothing about the Royal York - when she went to the restroom while we were in a bar - I gave an envelope to the barman and asked her to give it to her. He then brought drinks and the envelope over (with her name on it) - the look on her face was priceless.
If I can get a cheap rate on priceline - I quite often book it for an extra night at the end of my vacation - as the flights back to the UK are generally in the evening - allows you have a full last day - can use the pool, etc and then leave late afternoon without having to worry about where to put baggage, etc

At least twice...
One weekend in Napa/Sonoma we found everything sooooooo crowded that we only stayed one night and forfeited the second night.
On a trip home from N. California we decided to drive straight thru and get home really late instead of using the hotel I had booked somewhere half way.
Have not skipped a hotel based on reviews tho.

After reading the reviews on the 2.5* Sundowner Inn in Sunnyvale - Santa Clara, I booked another 4* room and was happy to do so:)

Sort of.
I booked Priceline rooms in London, and got the Copthorne Tara for my time there, which was fine. Then our plans changed slightly, and i needed an extra day at the end. At that time, Priceline didn't have the 'need more days?' option, so I tried again at the same price, and got the Kensington instead - didn't want to change hotels mid-honeymoon, so I called the hotel, got them to add a night on at the same rate. I put up the Kensington place on ebay, got my base price back, and added the winning bidder's name to the reservation - no worries. It worked fine.

Yes. Just last week, we missed our connection for Boston and had to spend the night in MSP. Used the rest of the paid stays though.
We didn't use prepaid rooms a few times throughout the years because of missed connections.

Missed flight connections have led to me not using non-cancellable booked rooms -- both regular and Priceline bookings.

I've lost quite a few nights for different reasons. Still, I am way ahead in the PL game. Walked away from crappy casinos in LAS several times. No longer use PL for Las Vegas.
