I will soon be flying my first KE flights from the US to SE Asia.
Based on the excellent trip reports and other threads, I know what to expect from my C-class US-ICN flights. I dont have a good idea of what to expect on my intra-Asia flights. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
ICN-KUL 'F' class, A333
I know these are the old-style seats. Looks like they're basically the same as the old-style C seats, with just a little more room between rows?
Will I get a menu on this flight? How is the meal service in F on this flight? (6h:45min flight from 18:20-00:05)?
Will I get an amenity kit on this flight?
Any other perks for flying F, besides the F Lounge at ICN?
BKK-ICN, 'C' class, 773
Again, these will be the old-style seats.
Which lounge does KE use at the new BKK airport?
Is there a meal service on this late-night flight (1:40-8:40?)
Any other tips, besides dressing lightly (I know the KE cabins can be quite warm?)
Thanks for the tips,
Bostonbali

KE provides menus for almost all C and F flights with meal service, even short ones like ICN-KIX, so I'd say it's a near certainty you will have menus on your ICN-KUL flight.
KE uses the SkyLounge, technically leased to Air France, at BKK. It is on level 3 (the lounge level) at the beginning of the F concourse, although KE flights almost always depart from the E concourse. There is no meal service immediately after takeoff from BKK, although they will offer drinks and maybe nuts or whatever. The meal service is breakfast prior to landing at Incheon. You're best off sleeping for as long as possible on the painfully short (under 4.5 hours' flying time, usually) BKK-ICN flight, so if you'll have time to eat breakfast in the lounge before your onward flight, put the sticker on your seat so they don't wake you up for the pre-landing meal. If you need eyeshades, etc., bring them or ask the FA's, who will give you one but don't just hand them out to everyone.

This thread (http://www.sqtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=42630) on SQTalk has several KE menus posted, including the one for KE 654, which I just finished posting. Bon appetit!

2 months ago - flew JFK-ICN-BKK, BKK-ICN-NRT on KE in Business.
1. No amenity kit in business class - even JFK-ICN nonstop on 744. I do not believe in First either on the intra-Asia. You might be the only person in First on the intra-Asia. On three 773 flights - First was empty on 2 of the flights, on one flight - only one person in First. They basically just close the curtain to F and leave the lights out in F - since nobody there.
2. Flew BKK-ICN on that flight. Not crowded at all. No one in First, about 10 people in business. I still like the old seat - very comfortable. Actually, more comfortable then the new business seat on the 744.
3. The BKK SkyLounge (AF etc) is OK, pretty big, and some sandwiches, etc for snacks.
4. I found the temperature on the KE flights to be very comfortable - warmer then many - but then I find those too cold. You can sleep very comfortably without waking up cold if the blanket slips off. My view - not an issue with KE. I prefer the temp on the KE flights. Wore long sleeve shirt with T-shirt underneath.
5. Nice breaksfast served just prior to arrival at ICN.
6. The ICN lounges are very nice - lots of good food and drink. Showers, as well. ICN is a beautiful airport.

Thanks Cova - very helpful. Also interesting that you preferred the downstairs to the upper deck. I'm still leaning towards the upper deck, mostly because I've never flown up there. Perhaps I'll go upper deck to ICN, and then fly downstairs on the way back if I find out that the upper deck is nothing special...

I'm cornfused. What did cova post about Upper Deck vs. Lower Deck?
[Comments on UD vs. LD moved to other thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=747160&page=2).]

Sorry about the 330, the seats are too close together, even in F.
I like the C seats on the 773. They don't lie flat, but they are really comfortable.
I don't know how many seats they normally sell on intra-asian flights, but on the flights I've taken in C intra-asia the cabin was pretty empty, even on ICN-NRT and back routes.

Hello all,
On 29OCT07 I flew ICN-PEK on an A330-300 in F.
Out of 12 seats there were 6 passengers.
Flight was on-time.
Slippers were offered, no other amenity kits. The flight was only 1h long.
We got a full dinner ...
Welcome drink w/ macadamia nuts
appetizer
choice of hot main course
fruit for dessert
coffee/tea
Service was excellent in all ways. Chief Purser came to say hello at beginning of flight and then bid us farewell on arrival in PEK.
I prefer more than just fruit for dessert, but that is cultural.

for your reading enterntainment, please look up my 3 TR's i did about recent KE flights. Also, as you said, on all the flights, the chief purser came by and greeted each C Class passenger before we left and right after we arrived at our destination came by again and "Thanked" us. really loved it.. first time ever flying in International Business Class Service

I agree with you on this. While the 773 seats don't lie flat and the pitch is closer - I had no trouble sleeping and I do not recall waking up (like I did on the 744 with new seats).

I searched "intra-Asia" and also "Kuala" but didn't come up with any details about the KE KUL-ICN flight.
I am looking at booking it in F.
1) I'm wondering if this is this essentially the same flight as BKK-ICN in C that I took last year--meaning, In-Flight Service is: Drinks after take-off and a breakfast before landing?
2) I know the F seats on the A330 are flat or almost lie-flat, right? With no IFE? I can't remember, since it's an overnight flight, but it's not the good KE PTV's like on the 744s, is it?
3) What lounge does KE use at KUL for F? It would be nice if it were the MH Golden Lounge.... but I guess it's not.
4) Finally: I've asked this elsewhere over the last few years, but: Why does KE sell F on this route but it's rarely if ever listed on BKK-ICN, even though that 773 also has an F cabin?
Thanks in advance!

FWIW, Carfield recently did ICN-TPE in F and I recall he walked away quite disappointed with the flight overall, and in particular the catering.

Well instead of the (paid) KE F ex-KUL, I'm flying on a NWA award, using CI F! I'm flying BKK-TPE-LAX on CI F. Only 120K miles RT. A great deal.
So I will be sure to report on CI F intra-Asia and also TransPac.
Thanks
