My fiance and I are going to the UK for our honeymoon. We are looking at leaving 7/28 and returning 8/9 flying from Michigan (MBS, DTW or Flint) to London. When is the best time to book our flights? Right now they seem to be running around $1300-$1500. I'd hate to wait and have prices go up higher but after paying for a wedding, budget's a bit of a concern. Does anyone know of sales, discounts, etc where we can find a bit cheaper rates?

Hi at32819!

Flights to London are quite expensive in July & August due to summer vacations. You quote cost of around $1300-1500. I presume that this is per passenger return?

Have you tried Zoom airlines from JFK? $750 return inc taxes/charges per passenger for the dates you have mentioned? You would obviously need to book a flight from your nearest airport to JFK out of the $550-750 saving.

Hope this fits the bill. If you want any advice regarding London/UK drop me a mail.

I am finding fares for $1150 and up round trip from the Cincinnati/Columbus area for early June. I've been looking for months and haven't seen much change except for $808 on Air Canada for a couple of days I should have booked several months ago!! I know summer is the busy time, but I don't know that summer airfare sales have been posted yet. What suggestions do you have for us? We are tied in to dates because we will be flying over for a cruise. I hadn't heard of Zoom, after looking at it there wouldn't be any savings on our dates from booking straight from Cincinnati. I didn't see a $750 round trip including all taxes, the cheapest ended up being around $900 from Toronto and I've found an Air Canada flight for $1118 from Columbus.
Sorry to hijack your thread at32819. :o

Hi lhall!

For your dates/travel situation what I have suggested to at32819 obviously wont work out for you. The $750 rtn fare that i referred to was from New York JFK - London on the dates mentioned by at32819. Dont know when the summer seat sales start in the US but I havent seen anything in the UK yet. Only sale seats upto easter vacation time.

Not sure what the fares for European LCCs are, but it may be worth it to fly into a European country with lower landing fees/taxes (Germany perhaps) and then take an LCC (GermanWings, EasyJet, Ryanair, Jet2) into the UK.

What about other airlines like FlyGlobespan and Eurofly? I think they fly out of Boston and JFK.

EDIT: I see that Eurofly goes to Rome from JFK for about $1,100 after taxes. It may not be worth it price-wise to look at these discount carriers and rely on LCCs like Ryanair, that could present a headache should your travels encounter delays.

If you're traveling from JFK or LGA, just keep an eye out over the next couple months, Great fares to LGW & LHE pop up, some as low as $179++ o/w...

Best of luck

Not a problem lhall. http://www.flyertalk.com/smile.gif Gosha - great suggestion! We're actually doing a bit of traveling via Ryanair already. I never thought to check airfare into those other cities in the UK and just adjust where we'll be and when. I just assumed flying into London would be cheaper than into Dublin, Glasgow etc... which is proving to not be the case (even though we still have to transfer in London - go figure). Flying into Dublin drops the price down to around $1,100/person. Thanks!!

Thanks for the suggestions! We're going to be traveling around a bit while we're there. I never thought to check airfare to the other cities, just assumed London would be the cheapest. Turns out we can get into Dublin for only $1100/person (even though we have to fly through London - go figure!).

Im looking for SFO-GLA and cant decide when to go in the spring. Feb is cheap but its also dark. What would you recommend for balancing weather with airfare? Any suggestions on a route SFO-GLA? Obvious connections to me are LHR, EWR, YYR, YVR. Thanks!

http://matrix.itasoftware.com and plug in your dates and try LOTS of combinations. To LHR,LGW,MAN,DUB,AMS,FRA,DUS etc. from any of your possible points of departure.

I can see $1052 Aer Lingus for your dates DTW-DUB over Boston, and less on Continental although it is really ugly routing.
