MilesBuzz! - E-statements -> no paper car rental coupons

I'll put this in MilesBuzz because it involves an issue with frequent flyer program electronic statements.

Now that I'm getting e-statements with various airlines, I'm not getting all of the paper coupons that used to come with the statements in the mail. Now, I don't need to have a pitch every month to get the airlines credit card or many of the other offers that were included in the statements, but I did collect the car rental "free weekend day" or "15% off" coupons that we always got.

So how do we investigate deals on rental cars now?

I can go to each of the airlines' websites to see what offers they have, but this is a hassle. Not only is it a lot of clicking, but you have to do some digging as well. For instance, when I go to AA.com today, the February newsletter has no car rental offers. But the January newsletter does, an Avis deal that is good through April. Then on to the next airlines website. It was much easier to just sort through the paper coupons I got with my statements.

I suppose I suppose is that I could save all of the e-statements I get; usually I just delete them after scanning through them, figuring that the same info is on the website if I need it. Still not as easy as paper.

I scanned the Coupon Connection and the boards for the car rental companies. Those boards gave me a few coupon codes, but it still involved clicking in all of the different forums and looking back through a bunch of posts. And the codes listed were spotty, not comprehensive.

One post there did lead me to MouseSavers.com (http://www.mousesavers.com/groundtrans.html), which is a site where there are a lot of ways to save when vacationing with Disney. That website did have a very good collection of car rental coupon codes, nicely summarized, not just for Florida, maybe easier than my old collection of coupons.

What other websites are out there that you use for this sort of thing?

Now that I have my bonus miles for signing up for e-statements, I'm tempted to have the airlines go back to sending me paper statements.

I'm glad you like my MouseSavers.com site! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I do try to collect the best car rental coupon codes for Florida and California (because the site is focused on Disney travel), but as you point out, many codes are also good for other areas of the US.

I have been a bit annoyed myself by the problem you raise (not getting the physical coupons once you switch to e-summaries), but I've realized that very few of the coupons distributed by the airlines and hotel chains are actually all that great anyway.

In general the discount codes from the rental car agencies' own sites, from Entertainment Book, and various other sources will give you much deeper discounts.

Fear not: most good car rental discounts can be had with e-coupons or simply with promotional rates via the rental agency sites. Scour the rental car boards on FT and Biddingfortravel, and you will find good codes for all agencies.

Usually the paper certs were a few percent off, an upgrade, a third-weekend-day-free, etc. All of these can be had via e-coupons with most companies.

Maybe your local library has a subscription to one if you don't feel like joining to get mag.. Another source is yopur local Sam's club: by joining that- around $35, they offer discounts to car and hotel rentals. The store I was in even had a carousel loaded w/Avis and Alamo percentage off weekly and one day free wkend rental coupons. Yours for the taking.
