Wyndham Rewards (formerly TripRewards) - Trip Rewards Expire after 4 years

I know...it's probably in the Membership Guide, but I just learned the hard way. I was thinking about booking one of the "decent" Ramadas, so I went to my Trip Rewards account. Saw that my balance was "0".
Called them this morning, and they told me that my balance was forfeited in December, 'cause those points were more than 4 years old. I've been getting regular statements with my dwindling balance ('cause I've only been redeeming - not earning) . There has been no indication on the statements as to how much longer these points have a life to them.
I don't have the biggest problem with them expiring in 4 years. My problem is with the fact that there is zero indication on statements or anywhere as to when the points were earned or how much life they have left in them. THat is too much to ask of the member to keep track of, I believe.
So, use 'em or lose 'em. They expire 4 years from earning, and 18 months with no activity in the account. Sounds as lousy as most of the properties in the program.
I'm done with them.

Or don't earn them. :)
What I mean is, unlike 4 years ago, TripRewards now has a number of airline partners (many -- most? -- added only within the last year), so going forward, I would suggest choosing to earn miles rather than points unless you're sure you'll be able to use the points.
I didn't realize they expired either, and lost mine a while ago. In fact, they deleted my membership information!

I have the same issue with them and have actually gone so far as to start a spreadsheet with all my points and a running total of how many points I have used and when certain points expire. But I do that because I already have their credit card and like some of their options for using points.
LaQuinta is the same way, only it is 24 months from check in. I have actually stopped using them as a fall back hotel due to this. I see no reason why, if I still have activity on my account, that I should lose points just because I haven't used the points.

Also, your account gets closed after 18 months of inactivity, I just found that out the hard way.

This reminds me that my 18 months should be due in about 3 months or so. I guess i need to book something this summer.

A couple of options:
1. Rent an Avis car and have those points count to TR.
2. Set your earnings to airline miles, such as CO, which NEVER expires.
3. Cash out points for gift cards (US or Canadian..the later is a nice benefit for cross-border b-day presents. )

I learned that the hard way as well - fortunately, they automatically opened a new account for me when they linked TripRewards with Wyndham byRequest since I am an active byRequest member.

I also missed this point as I just noticed my account was closed. My last activity was 9/16/06 and I think 18 months was 4/16/08. Didn't have that many points but at least other programs make it very clear when points expire.

When they deleted my whole account, they deleted my future business! It makes no sense to add insult to injury as they did.

I can understand that. I had to re-register when I stayed at a Days Inn years later.

Yep. I worked SO hard to get enough points--they were continually posting points wrong, not posting them, double billing, etc. I had to do about 3 extra stays beyond what I should have to get enough for one stay. I tried to use them last summer and my booking wouldn't go through. They promised they would fix it for me and instead they closed my account for "inacitvity."
This summer I'm paying a few more dollars to stay elsewhere. I won't stay at any of their properties unless it's the only option--I'd rather seelp in the park. It's just an amazingly sleazy company/organization.

..or, for a program like Triprewards that has no concept of how to treat its customers in a ridiculously competitive market, you can now stay at:
1. an Hampton Inn
2. an Hilton Garden Inn
3. a Homewood

Are you sure that is really any better? According to the Hilton HHonors website T&C's -
Members who do not earn points in any 12 month consecutive month period may be removed from the Program and, if so, are subject to forfeiture of all accumulated points.
So instead of trying to get activity every 18 months, you go to Hilton and try to get activity every 12 months? I am not sure how that is treating the customer any better.
