So I know this might be an opinion question but is there really any benefit to the Amex Platinum with the $400 fee compared to the no fee Hilton Amex other than the airline lounge access? I primarily stay in Hilton properties (gold) and fly northwest/co (No status) my logic was upgrading would allow me to use worldclubs when I fly and hopefully get me some upgrades on domestic flights. Are there any other real tangible benefits?

Also is the platinum concierge really any good? I know its subjective but I have a Schwab visa card that has a concierge service provided by LesConcierges and its just mediocre. When I have used them they seem more like phone jockeys than people that can arrange things.

Advice would be appreciated...

You will get to use AA/CO/DL/NW lounges when flying on the same airline.
You will not get any flight upgrades.

You also will get access to Regus business lounges and 4 free domestic companion tickets per year.

There are some other benefits as well, such as lost item protection.

The fee is going up from $395 to $450 on 02/01/08.

Lounge access could easily pay for itself depending on how much you use it. For me that is the biggest benefit. Note too that you can get up to three secondary platinum cards for $175 total (not $175/card). They also get the same benefits you do. Great if you have three people who can use the benefits.

John,

$175 for 3 cards is for personal Platinum and not for business one. Business Platinum additional cards are $200 each as of now.

Lounge access to my commonly-used US airlines, plus some outstanding upgrades and amenities through Platinum Travel's Fine Hotels and Resorts program (albeit a logistical mess), keep me paying the fee.
