American Express Membership Rewards - Amex Gold Plus to Platinum

I have been an AMEX Gold Rewards Plus cardholder for about 7 months now, and charge roughly $7K per month on the card. Does anyone have any ideas about when I may begin receiving promotions and offers to upgrade to the Platinum card? Any similar experiences?

How do you like Gold?
I have a Blue card and am looking for something new.

Can't you just ask to be upgraded to the Platinum, its not a special card that you have to be invited to own any more.

You can get upgraded, but I was just wondering the type of point offers people have received to upgrade to Platinum.

Honestly, Amex hands out platinum charge cards to anyone. Just call up and ask for one, especially given your current status with Amex.

Although I spent 30 minutes trying to apply last night with India and got nowhere.

I received an offer for 10K MR points to upgrade to Amex Plat, considering it....does anyone think that number of MR points could increase if I dont repsond to offer number one?

Seaching this forum, one can find that offers with up to 50,000 have been available to select cardmembers.

Usually after your first year is up. You can call and ask to upgrade, but i'd wait until after the first year since the gold gives extra points for spending 50k a year. That was the only thing that made me wait.

If my call to Amex, for some reason, ends up in India, I always asked to be transferred to a US-based call center.

They should be able to take care of your application.

When I log into americanexpress.com for my blue cash card I am being offered a Platinum card with 25,000 points if I spend $1000 by May 31, 2008. Not worth the $450 fee IMO.

Set up your account online and you will see offers scroll through. The SPG card is pushed heavily too.

Are you being offered the charge card or the credit card.. there is a difference.
