I've seen Amex Black gift thread, but yesterday we got a pretty good Amex Gold Gift. UPS knocked on the door and we got (drum roll please) an IPOD SHUFFLE! My children were thrilled! My husband's comment was, "These aren't selling in the stores." Anyway, I'm happy too, because I was not expecting anything. We have Amex Gold Membership Rewards, have been members less than two years. We do charge all of our everyday miscellaneous to this card, so maybe we were rewarded for our loyalty.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you typically spend a month on your Gold plus card?
I am always intrigued at how AMEX decides who does and who doesn't get gifts such as what you got.

I had the Gold for years and never received anything. I am now a Plat and I haven't received anything. I am thinking of dumping it.

I have gold and Platinum and got the Platinum gift (Wine book). It was nice, but the shuffle would have been nice.

I have a blue (no annual fee, yay) and all I got was a bunch of papers with my card. And a bunch of stuff about their membership rewards program.

Man...I wonder what it takes to get on the "gift list".

As for why we were picked for a gift, I'm not sure. I've read a theory that if you put all of your everyday expenses on the card (which we do - groceries, gas, McDonalds), that you're more likely to get a gift. We have two cardholders on the same account (my husband and I) and we put $2000 to $5000 a month on the card. Go figure.
