MOST places won't take cash anymore. Too much "bad people ruining it for the good people" situations. There's been too much theft, damage etc. and there's no recourse for the rental companies when you only paid cash. Your credit card is the only collateral they have when you pay that way. I can't believe that debit cards are actually accepted by National, quite frankly. Yes there are restrictions that go with their use but they are the closest thing to cash there is. There are a few places that still will take cash, but you usually have to bring proof of current employment, two or three utility bills and two forms of ID and in some cases proof of round trip flight. But think of the risk the car rental company is taking buy only accepting cash for a rental. They have your tiny bit of cash and you have their car worth several thousand dollars...and they don't know you from Adam. USFreak Dec 31, 07, 10:23 am The only thing I am aware of with Enterprise is you can pay cash to settle at the airport. But, all of them require a credit card/debit card that I know of.....what kills me is the massive deposits some of these places charge.....In philly, I had Budget do a $600 authorization for a one night rental and I had the insurance in case something went wrong. I mean a kid in there 20's who has to travel for work and is fresh out of college doesn't have a huge credit line to absorb that kind of mess. Paminaz Dec 31, 07, 2:56 pm I mean a kid in there 20's who has to travel for work and is fresh out of college doesn't have a huge credit line to absorb that kind of mess. I've seen that happen where some young person who's traveling new for a biz and they don't have a biz card to rent on. It causes prob's all the time. Biz's should give them a corp card to take on the road and it should be discusses up front with them before they hit the road. It's not fair to send them out on the road like that. OR the Biz should have a corp direct bill set up with the Rental company. National takes cash at the end of the rental and refunds the card if there isn't a huge credit line but the cc companies sometimes take 5 to 7 days to release the hold on their cc. xcalx Jan 18, 08, 6:46 am Alamo at FLL let me leave $20 deposit for 1 day prepaid rental when I forgot my CC, we were on a cruise & had proof of that to show them. |
