Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Cruise compete quote

We booked successfully through this portal last year. Recently we received an excellent quote from their vendor Cruiseadvanture travel. I called within hours to try to book it. The next day I was told the quote was a mistake, even though I had it in writing. They would not honor the quote. I'm not sure how often this happens. Cruise compete appears to be a link to travel agents who bid for your business.

That's exactly what they are. Cruise Compete themselves sells no travel at all. They are only a clearing house for travel agents. Mistakes do get made, I've had that happen before there. Just go to the next lowest and call them. You better read the T&C at CC, you'd have know all this if you had.

The thread title is very misleading on two counts: 1) Cruisecompete itself isn't doing the quotes and therefore is not responsible for honoring them; and 2) even if it were Cruisecompete itself quoting and selling the cruises, one instance should not lead to a sweeping generalization!

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of seeing these types of sweeping generalizations on FlyerTalk, especially in thread titles. It's dishonest on the part of the poster (who, ironically, is often complaining about dishonesty on the part of businesses). :eek:

I'm an avid, regular cruiser (33 cruises in 10 years) and have used Cruise Compete's "service" numerous times. FlyingTiger and KathyWdrf are correct in that CruiseCompete isn't itself a travel agency. Through the years I've received a few mistake quotes from their member agencies. The quotes were so low they were obvious mistakes, and the agent's who sent them can only apologize for their mistakes. For an agent to honor a mistaken quote translates to $$$ out of their pockets. Simply a case of human error ... we all make them!

I usually recieve 4 or 5 quotes, prices are usually within $50 high to low it would be intereting to know what other quotes the OP got to assume this quote was genuine if $$$ below others
