I keep searching ITA (http://matrix.itasoftware.com) for goof FRA - NYC fares and found a realy good one at 279 EUR (USD 401) on "Northwest + others".

Now, I don't know how to book this fare. Tried Expedia, Opodo and NWA.com. They all show an Alitalia flight at about 380 EUR as the cheapest option.

If you do a month long search you can find quite some datest with the 279 EUR fare but still can't find a way to book it.
Perhaps ITA's data is old?

Thanks for your help!

UPDATE: Just called KLM and tried booking their 303 EUR (USD 435) fare that showed up on ITA for the same dates (JAN 26 - JAN 27) and the agent could only find a 500 EUR (USD 719) fare although I told her exactly what flight and what farecode (V) it was. I'm quite new here so any advise on how to book this would be helpful!

Based upon the info that your provided (only 1/2 of your round trip dates), I cannot sanity check the pricing available on other sites. That said, check orbitz. They seem to show all airline webfares and typically access the same airline / rounting combintations that you can find by doing basic ITA searches.

In some situations, expedia doesn't show all available flights. This could be a KLM fare, thus calling KLM direct won't work.

If that doesn't work, try searching the mileage run tools regarding ITA and booking

Were you able to find a similar fare on www.kayak.com? If so, you would be directed to the consolidator offering that price.

If this is not a direct flight - try doing multi-destination search, specifying every segment - sometimes this helps.
